Lindsay Lohan

Suspected in Jewelry Theft

2/2/2011 11:00 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan has just turned a super-expensive piece of jewelry over to cops that landed her in the middle of a police investigation ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... last week the owner of an L.A. store filed a police report, claiming a $2,500 necklace was stolen from her business. We're told the store surveillance video shows Lindsay in the store, wearing the necklace before it disappeared, although it's unclear if the video actually shows Lindsay walking out of the store with the jewelry.

Cops got a warrant to search Lindsay's home, but last night -- before the warrant could be served -- one of Lindsay's associates turned the piece over to the cops.

Mind you, turning in stolen property doesn't make it right, so the owner can continue to press the case... so Lindsay -- who is still on probation -- is not out of the woods.

The STORE didn't know she had the dam necklace till after it came up missing and they checked the vidiotapes and saw her walk out with it on..........THAT is TREFT period.or in plain language shoplifting...... That they recognized her and called her to ask for the necklace back first was them trying to help her stay out of trouble ..Her deniing she had it was why they called the police for a search warrent and thats when she returned the necklace by her assident because the jig was up ..

It was no mistake she took that dam necklace just like she took the fur coat and all the other stuff...Stop making excuses for the woman.......

Stop jumping in to defend this girl. She is a thief and a drug addict and deserves no attention at all. She will do 20 years in jail one of these days and that will be it.

@Banderman - This is not a gender thing, it's a (perceived) rich and famous thing.

Lindsay will say this was a misunderstanding and get out of it again though, I agree.

@Sam
You just don't get access to or walk out the store with a 2,500 necklace (according to LA times) without the owner knowing about it.

You're assuming way too much. The store, not Lindsay, is responsible for the items in the store. If they were monitoring with a video camera then there should be video proof. Their main security feature does not provide evidence of a crime, therefore there was no crime. You may be lead to an opinion on the matter because of previous emtions concerning this invididual but there are facts that cannot be ignored.

The store will claim it has a security system in place that is used to prevent theft. If the person monitoring the items witnessed a crime it is the stored responsibility to claim the items.
I am sorry to sound like a broken record but it is possible the store owner dropped the items in Lindsays bag just for poblicity.

You don't give your clients items to try and then watch them walk out the door with them, because if you do then you are SOL. The police pursued the matter on behalf of the store, they notified Lindsay that she was a suspect in grand larceny.

If she did it she would be in jail RIGHT now. There is no bargaining with justice.

This is all a publicity ploy for the DA, nothing more. Very cheap shot, they should all be sued. She would win.

A misunderstanding?..Walking out of a store without paying for a $5000.00 piece of jewelry?

Lindsay would have obviously of kept it if the police report wasn't filed.

Yea Nicole..23 more days to go.You follow the details of her life as close as Dina. You two must have alot in common.

23 days to go,but she'll have a lifetime living with the fact she's the most disliked former celebrity in America.

Two things:

1. She's not in jail for it
2. Thay have no proof of a crime

The ONLY way they could throw Lindsay in jail is if Lindsay flat out told them she stole it, that's about it. DA is fishing and he knows it.

Banderman - Charlie Sheen is a man and he does more than half the stuff Lindsay does and he doesn't even get arrested. What the heck are you talking about.

As for Lindsay, I think it is safe to say she has some mental issues. I don't know if there is a cure, but I hope counselling and maybe medication can get her where she needs to be mentally.
