'Deadliest Catch' Star Honored -- One Year After Death

2/9/2011 2:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

It's been one year since "Deadliest Catch" star Captain Phil Harris passed away -- and TMZ has learned his sons will honor his memory in the place they felt closest to him ... on a fishing boat.

We're told Jake and Josh Harris are currently on board the boat their dad made famous -- the F/V Cornelia Marie because they feel their dad would have wanted them to treat the day like any other day ... and continue to run the family business.

Sources close to the family tells us the boys just wrapped up a successful season of Opilio crabbing and are now headed to Kodiak, AK for cleaning and repairs.

As we previously reported, both Jake and Josh have expressed interest in following in Phil's footsteps ... and captain their own boats one day.

I watched a couple seasons of Deadliest Catch, and never knew what an impact Phil Harris's death would have on me, but watching the footage of his last days really touched me. Phil was a tough guy, but never too tough to show his LOVE for his two sons. Though I don't know Phil Harris personally, I do know he did a wonderful job in raising his boys. It was quite obvious that he loved them tremendously, and obvious his sons loved their dad greatly as well. It showed how proud he was of Josh and Jake...what two remarkable men!

If your making comments to do with their weight, or smoking habits doesn't matter; He was still a human being who did his best and happened to get a tv show doing it; which has made this a story to cover; I have read several write-ups and some people think they are better than people on the show- who the f*ck are you to judge anyone else, it doesnt matter how much money you have or what you look like, or the car you drive. We all have a 1st amendment right to say whatever we want so you can walk around with your head up your ass. God Bless America.

Josh it is so good to see you back on your father's boat. Remember when your dad was fishing and trying to find the crab, he always said to watch for and smell the crabs farts. He always catch crab that way. Also follow all of his charts and notes and you should be just fine. Have your relief capatin help you and give all the pointers that he knows to you and you should be able to bring the Corneila Marie back where shw needs to be.
