Lindsay Prosecutor: We Believe It's a $2,500 Necklace

2/15/2011 9:30 AM PST BY TMZ STAFF

The prosecutor in the Lindsay Lohan shoplifting case believes the necklace in question is worth $2,500 ... but she's open to hearing arguments from Lindsay's lawyer that the price tag is grossly inflated.

TMZ broke the story ... several jewelers claim the market value of the necklace is anywhere between $800 and $1,000.  Under California law, if the item in question is worth $950 or less, the case must be filed as a misdemeanor, not a felony.

Deputy D.A. Danette Meyers tells TMZ, "If Shawn (Lindsay's lawyer) presents me with credible evidence of value, we will take a look at it.  But based upon what's in front of us -- what the store owner and designer said -- the necklace is worth $2,500."

Meyers adds, ultimately "It's a battle for the jury."

ok so if I go to gucci and I happen to see a purse that suits my fancy and the price tag of my would be purse is 2,500 so I grab the purse and walk out of the store with it. But then the security catch me and the store decides to press charges against me. But then my lawyer argues that the charges shouldn't be grand theft instead it should be a misdemeanor since the purse is probably worth 50 bucks way under the price tag of 1,000 as we all know since it's made in china and is not even made of leather ( some of them are made of canvas ). But when I walk out of the store with the item that I believe is worth of the price tag which is 1,000 because if they would've put the real value of the purse which is 50 bucks I wouldn't have even considered stealing it.

Am I the only person who is TOTALLY SICK of hearing about Lohan and her garbage ? Lock her up, send her to Australia, but get her out of our faces. Stupid, spoiled, talentless, narcissistic thief and drug addict who happens to have some money.

Regardless of how they plead . . . Lohan is G U I L T Y for VIOLATION of PROBATION! She is NOT to have any additional police contact, she is suppose to be keeping her NOSE clean from the law, stemming from her DUI conviction(s). If she pleads guilty (and or Not) she still is going to face jail time. And if it is true that Judge Elden Fox is at the end of his ropes regarding his patience with Lohan, she is going back to jail.

Any jail time imposed on her is at the Judges discretion. Judge Fox needs to send Lohan to jail, mandatory-day-for-day with only credits for time served, meaning if he gives her 60 days she will do 40 of which means her first 19/20/21 days last year will count, but that is it! Fox needs to make sure that the Sheriff over seeing the jail she is sent to does not have 'jurisdiction' on releasing her early for over-crowding.

Judge Fox is like any other Judge in the judicial system, when one of their criminals continues to show disrespect for what sentences are handed down to them, from their courtroom and they show no regard for what is being asked of them, they will send you BACK to jail so you can THINK LONG AND HARD about what you are doing with and in your life!

This train-wreck called Lohan needs to back to jail. She needs to think about her actions. I guarantee you that she is going to do jail time this round, and Judge Fox is NOT going to be lenient what-so-ever regarding what time he does give her. DA Meyers needs to go after the full-extent of what can be imposed for this probation violation, telling and showing Hollywood that they are tough on REPEAT OFFENDERS - and once again Lohan falls in that category! She is now just only a courtroom junkie, at least she is getting some publicity for what she is doing, even if it doesn't really count for anything other than she is hooked on being in the public eye, no matter how she goes about doing it. Even if it is unlawful! What A Loser!

The jewelry business is obscene these days, prices have a stupidity factor included. Most of these glitzy pieces of crap are made in Asia, and if you really want to find out the true cost look it up on eBay, or go to a pawn shop. A $2500. item here in the US priced at high-end retail, California nouveau-riche factor, can usually be had for a few hundred dollars thru the internet or buying from one of the Asian wholesale price places. Most of the chain stores mark their junk up several hundred percent. If you want an eye-opener, ask them what they'll buy it back from you 6 months later. The true value is what a pawn shop will give you, nothing more.
That jeweler who's trying to stick it to LL has never had so much publicity, Lindsay should send her a bill.
