CBS Reporter Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

2/15/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted after being surrounded by a crazed mob in Tahrir Square on Friday ... moments after Hosni Mubarak officially stepped down.

Lara Logan

According to CBS, Logan and her crew were covering a story for "60 Minutes" when they were surrounded by a mob of more than 200 people and she was separated from her security team.

CBS says 39-year-old Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

CBS continues, "[Logan] reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."

Logan and her team had been detained by Egyptian police 8 days before the sexual assault -- and Logan had reported, "We were accused of being more than journalists, very frightening suggestions were being made. Suggestions that really could be very dangerous for us."

The United States needs to stay the heck out of Egypt's problems/wars. Obama doesn't need to be advising a leader of another country regarding his reign as leader; i.e. telling the other leader that he doesn't need to run again. The U.S. has enough problems without getting involved with yet another country's problems.

I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Logan's sexual assault and beating! Truly sad and very horrific!

when you rape a woman in Egypt then you tell your friends about it and they tell you that you did a brave thing?
if a friend of mine tells me something like that I'll call the COPS on him.
that's the difference: is that sub-human culture that allows men to do it in plain sight , in front of other men like in this case.
that's why they don't deserve to stay with the others from the civilized parts of the world.

totally agree with 303. The US shouldn't even comment on other countries problems anymore. Maybe this way other countries will stop hating us. If a country needs help with something, there are proper channels. They should go to the UN and voice their problem. The UN should take it from there. I LOVE the US. Borned and raised here. But when every country is saying the same thing about us and butting in... well, then we should start listening.

Wake up. Politics had nothing to do with the M PIGS in EGYPT, 200+! If it is true, it sickens me. She was RAPED. These people over there have no regard for life, vans, ambulances, etc running people over in cold blood. Their OWN people (hmm, think i have heard of that happening in Chicago daily!)... Politics, Obama, did not cause them to be sick frickin people. They probably want their freedom so they can start freely raping more. Ug, side on the women.

"More than 56 women were assaulted, stripped and molested by a large group of men." The Central Park thing? You left out something:

More than (white) 56 women were assaulted, stripped and molested by a large group of (black) men.

Same clarification applies when idiots say 'rape is happening all over America.'

Can you imagine what they'd of done to Anderson Cooper if they knew he was gay? They'd have killed him. Lucky for him they didn't see the recent vacation photos of him and his boyfriend in Mubai.

I find so many of these comments offensive, stunning, and full of a lack of basic human empathy and compassion. I wish TMZ would edit these comments. My prayers to this young woman and her family.

Thankyou for saying that. My grandmother was an Italian Jew born in Alexandria and I have always wanted to go to Egypt to see that beautiful country where she grew up. I just hope I can one day.

And to the people blaming Lara logan for getting beaten and raped, please return to whatever cave you crawled out of. The men who did this hold all the blame. They had a choice not to but they did.

To those who refuse to pay attention, welcome to the reality of what is happening. That was called the "Tolerance Tax"
It is a "Tax" that is payed by infidels so that "extreme" (candy coated Bullcrap!) Muslums will tolerate their presence. To make matters worse she is a Female so she has no rights in the first place.
Infidels, everything they own, and any of their family are considered the property of the "Faithfull" to do with whatever they wish at any time for any reason.
I believe that the Younger generation that started this "Peace full revolution" are no longer in control and the more extreme Muslim/Islamic factions have taken control of the situation as I regrettably expected. This will continue to happen throughout the middle east and parts of Europe as it has been stated by the extremists, in public view, all over the net.
Our own tolerance and freedom based laws will be used against us as a way to gain time to build the proper force necessary to overthrow governments without firing a shot.
Our Western tolerance will be our own undoing unless we wake up.
In ancient times, religion was also law. Laws change to reflect changes in the world, many religions do not. ANY religion that does not adapt to man's acquisition of knowledge and awareness of the universe around him/her HAS NO PLACE IN THIS WORLD. This is because the reality of such a religion is that the purpose of Life is to serve those in power and then simply die when you are of no more use. It unfortunately also dooms mankind into premature extinction because knowledge is power and free thinking acquires knowledge and they don't want that. Why do you think Music is Illegal in some religions.
("You must prepare your children to die for AllaH", a quote on public television by the leader of a certain Middle eastern nation. He looked and smiled like Santa clause while he said it)

FYI The incident in question happens in the US frequently due to an often overlooked (due to tolerance) similar mentality in our own cities. This mentality has to be dealt with as well.
Go look up the ghetto definition of "Train" as related to females, and you might want to have a trash can nearby to throw up in.
WAKE UP AND PAY ATTENTION before all you are blindly working for is lost!!!!!!!!!!

You can't blame all Egyptians or all Muslims for the actions of these animals that attached Ms. Logan. The women and soldiers who came to her aide were Egyptians too. What happened to her is horrible and I pray that she'll make a full and fast recovery. Why she was sent into such a dangerous situation is just beyond explanation.
