CBS Reporter Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

2/15/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted after being surrounded by a crazed mob in Tahrir Square on Friday ... moments after Hosni Mubarak officially stepped down.

Lara Logan

According to CBS, Logan and her crew were covering a story for "60 Minutes" when they were surrounded by a mob of more than 200 people and she was separated from her security team.

CBS says 39-year-old Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

CBS continues, "[Logan] reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."

Logan and her team had been detained by Egyptian police 8 days before the sexual assault -- and Logan had reported, "We were accused of being more than journalists, very frightening suggestions were being made. Suggestions that really could be very dangerous for us."

I hope Lara is able to recovery mentally and physically from this terrible attack.
This must have been a large mob of men to take 20 soldiers and a group of women to save Lara. This is an incredibly brave thing to do for women from a Middle Eastern country to stand up to an angry out of control mob of men. In many Middle Eastern countries they would be thrown in jail and then stoned to death even beaten to death themselves by the mob. Makes me wonder if Mubarak rule wasn’t that bad for freedom and rights for women. Well done ladies if the new democracy is made of women like you this country will do well. Thanks to those brave soldiers too for standing up for a helpless victim of such a terrible crime.

You people with your "she deserved it" comments are sick. No one deserves to be gang raped. No one!
Whether you think she should have been there or not she was just doing her job as a reporter. I'm sorry for what she went through and for the terrible state of things today. God please have mercy on your children because we sure don't have any on each other!

It's funny how everybody think muslims and the middle east are savage by nature, when it was muslims who brought Europe out of the dark ages.

You can thank Muslims for:

-Chemistry
-Algebra
-Star systems

etc.

I wonder if anyone posting here has ever been to Egypt. Well I have recently and this assault is no surprise to me, she and her employer should have known better. Blonde and fair skinned women need to be extremely careful in Egypt and COVER UP. It's for your own safety. You can feel the eyes on you & hear the sexual comments the men make - it does not feel safe one little bit. I understand this is her profession and feel terribly for what happened, however her employer should have sent another (MALE) correspondant to cover this story.

People who are saying that she deserves this are sick. What she expected when she went there was to cover a news story, not be brutally raped and beaten. She was doing her job, which is bring news to the people. I can't believe some of these comments. Then again, I can, because the majority of people are over-privileged, ignorant idiots.

I truly feel for this person, who is trying to make a name for herself, but while looking at some pictures, in a world where all the adult women are covered up from head to toe, she did not feel the need to wear the Burka or cover up. When in Rome, do as the romans do. I'm sorry there will be no Justice for her, but I agree with others who stated, she should not have been there, and if she insisted to be there, should have adopted their traditional clothing.

This is what happens in some of these countries were men are sick and believe in this religion that we hear so much about, they have no punishment when they attack women. Prehistoric monsters!! Amercia wake the heck up, i am glad that Egypt is free from a ****tator but in the wake, there will be plenty of this type of violence on women and young girls, hell it goes on everyday in these Arab countries!!

I'VE SAID IT ONCE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN: TMZ/HARVEY....TAKE THIS THREAD DOWN!! This just pisses me off so much when USMagazine and TMZ, etc tries to pretend they are a real news agency. Desperate for hits and actively wanting the trolls of the world to crawl out from under their rocks to incite people. GROW UP, TMZ...VERY, VERY disappointed in you today.

Anyone who says this is her fault is an idiot. You are telling me that if you were working at your job at McD's and someone came in and raped you it would be your fault? Well that is the point some are trying to make. No matter where you are at it is not your fault if someone else rapes you. That is why they call it rape and not sex. Have a heart people and before pointing the finger at someone elses life look at yours. If you are infact perfect (which no one is) by all mean keep comenting, if not shut up and think about how you would feel if this was you are one of your family members.

This was a false flag attack designed to push crazed white males into a frenzy of warmongering.

She was not raped and if she was she deserved it as she's a white South African who is implicated in the oppression of Blacks and the rape of Black women by whites.
