CBS Reporter Sexually Assaulted in Egypt

2/15/2011 6:15 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

CBS News reporter Lara Logan was sexually assaulted after being surrounded by a crazed mob in Tahrir Square on Friday ... moments after Hosni Mubarak officially stepped down.

Lara Logan

According to CBS, Logan and her crew were covering a story for "60 Minutes" when they were surrounded by a mob of more than 200 people and she was separated from her security team.

CBS says 39-year-old Logan "suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers."

CBS continues, "[Logan] reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering."

Logan and her team had been detained by Egyptian police 8 days before the sexual assault -- and Logan had reported, "We were accused of being more than journalists, very frightening suggestions were being made. Suggestions that really could be very dangerous for us."

Tamara - "sexual assult" is not the legal term for rape. Rape is the legal term for rape. Not that it matters in Egypt but sexual assult is defined in various ways depending on the jurisdiction and includes unwanted touching of the breasts, vagina, and buttocks, oral penetration, anal penetration, etc.

No sugar coating the fact that the world is a dangerous place. If you think for one nanosecond that being a journalist covering the news in a dangerous place gives any kind of protected status and elevates you to brave then, well, that's what you think. I think a woman journalist from another country in this place at this time is beyond foolish.

WRONG! Sexual assault is in many forms! Inappropriate touching is sexual assault. I think you have man hate issues. You need to work on that.

My stomach gets sick at the thought of being faced w/that helpless against huge scary animal men w/no clue of what it means to respect women. However, I think anyone who is going to put themselves in that sort of situation is pretty much asking for it. Knowing full well how dangerous a place you are going to, that people there don't give a **** about some reporter, of course you're looking for disaster. In other words, yes it's sad sad very sick what happened, but next time you go reporting understand your vulnerability & expect things like this to happen. Sucks for her but what happened is not surprising.

ya know when the celebrations/protest began.. i was thinking " ok 1 day these tv reporters will end up getting themselves more involved in reporting history than just reporting it."

and Bamo.. here we go..

Its a very sad and unfortunate thing that happened to ms.logan.. she has my prayers hoping she recovers and has a good life..

but.. ladies you must except the truth.. you do not belong in certain places.. now here in the US.. you can do whatever you want.. women's rights, liberties, dignity or well protected.. BUT you go over to the middle east.. its an entirely different story..

her security team, herself, and CBS are the blame for this... and the picture here was taken moments prior to the attack.. per CBS.... she was NOT wearing protection covering asset clothing... you think a bunch of middle easterns would have some sort of respect for you?? are you freaking serious?? yea they were hugging the male CBS reporter thanking him.. but this lady here.. got took....blonde at that.. talk about throw a good clean blonde in the middle of a protesting pack...

Priceless stupidity... priceless...

those saying.. its not her fault.. yep its her fault for not protecting herself and being in a safe place... this is what happens when you have a blonde at the wrong place in an UNCONTROLLABLE ENVIROMENT... cbs was just giving candy to some crazies..

she's lucky to be alive and not have her head chopped off, or finding her naked nude body somewhere in the streets.

as if they never paid attention to the victims of rape from Katrina.. this crap occurs again...

Although it is offensive he is just practicing his fredom of speech unless he makes some direct threatening remarks to people on this site or others, not really much anyone could do. I dont agree with his remarks either but he has his right..I also dont agree he will burn in hell as there are much much more worse that deserve that...especially and for sure if they have or anyone has rejected Christ is more than enough according to the New Testament Bible...any way, dont bothering reading posts or answering if you disagree, that only adds fuel to the fire! Regards

Hey TMZ is the Celebrity Justice moniker really necessary for this story?

MooCow, not sure what state you're in, but in my state and many other states, "rape" is not a defined legal term, rapes are "sexual assault".

We can't forget that gang rapes don't just occur in other countries, they occur in the US too. If the punishments were stronger, men might think twice before engaging in such horrible acts. I propose cutting their weenies off.

For those of you putting down Egypt for their demonstrations, you seem to be forgetting that our OWN COUNTRY has done the same types of things in our own history...when our own country was young and fighting for independence from another. Is it right? Of course not. However, there are always militant extremists in ANY country during any uprising that will do the wrong thing. Within our own Civil War there were those who would rape and kill women and children of the opposing side (of any color) for sport...and you judge EVERYONE of another country because they also have idiots who do this??

No, she did not deserve what she got...absolutely not and obviously there were those there who helped her (thankfully). At least she had people step in, beatings and rape happen in America every day...and no one gets involved.

As for Itchy Balls...your a moron all you are going for is attention. Bet you'd be saying the same thing if it were your mother, sister, girlfriend, or wife over there that this happened to now wouldn't you? Oh, no wait...you'd be saying she asked for it.

Why is CBS sending a former swimsuit model into Egypt? This chick was detained and kicked out of Egypt recently. You would think she got the message to stay out of Egypt. She got assaulted? Somebody grabbed her butt or boob? She got fingered? Was she dressed in a respectful manner? Was she out in a large crowd with her flowing hair, revealing cleavage and wearing heavy news-chick makeup? And then being arrogant with her lefty leaning questions? Logan is an adulterer who had a child out of wedlock. Parachute journos like her should just stay home in their fancy apartments and mansions and let the real boots on the ground journalists do their job.

Come on, people! What century are we in??? According to history books, terms such as "SHE WAS ASKING FOR IT! That SLUT, having long, flowing hair and make-up, a hint of cleavage!! Just begging to be sexually assaulted - looking good like that."

Most of the time, when I read comments posted by imbeciles such as the above, I'm able to shake the ignorance off. What difference does it make what body parts were invaded and how????? ASSAULT IS ASSAULT. How would you like total strangers on and in YOUR body against your will?

It is almost guaranteed this reporter was assured she would have "protection" by her company.

I totally do NOT understand the majority of the comments posted on this subject. Every last one of you who said she was "asking for it" just by being there or being there the "way she looks" should be ashamed of yourselves. Rape and assault are CRIMES. If a person cannot control themselves from committing a sexual assault just because their victim is attractive. THEY should be in jail.

WHAT DOES IT MATTER what this reporter's sexual background is? It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the sexual assault she endured in Egypt. So because of her BACKGROUND, because she allegedly had affairs, "she deserves it."

The thing that scares me to death is that every single one of these "she was asking for it" comments were made by AMERICANS. Women evidently are in more danger in the USA then anyone realized.

My intuition tells me this story is not true. It creates a golden opportunity for "people" to malign Egyptians, how convenient. Also I wish "people" would stop trying to insult others by calling them "animals". As an animal lover I deeply resent when those haters spit out such name-calling. It should be a compliment to be compared to an animal. As for the Egyptians, give them a break and stop your muslim-bashing. We are all brothers and sisters.

You are so unbelievably ignorant, you must have a rusty nail for brains. To make an assumtion that the person you were slamming lives in the desert is based on nothing. What does being civilized and living in the desert have to do with one another? How's it a diss? Do people in the U.S. not live in the desert? Are you slamming the people who live in Arizona calling them uncivilized? Do you live in Los Angeles, CA or New York? If not...well then are you uncivilized? Because surely those are big, famous cities that have a high cost of living with lots going on. Usually you aren't doing bad for yourself if you can make it in L.A. So...if you aren't from L.A.....should we think lesser of you? Tables can be turned. You are an uneducated fool.

"To make an assumtion that the person you were slamming lives in the desert is based on nothing"

She was sexually assaulted in Egypt, dumbass. 93% of the MID EAST is desert, none of you idiots tried to leave. Maybe you all got pushed back to hell militarily and are crying about it now. Maybe you tried, by force, to get out of the desert only to have your ass handed to you OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Enjoy your crushed sand and camel feces dinner, dumbass.

The misogynist posts here are not surprising. There are many George Sodini-type losers in the world who have been rejected by women and then developed an extreme hatred of them, even wishing that they be raped or killed. They justify their hatred in a number of ways, including blaming the victim for the harm she suffered.

Nice try misogynists, but we see right through your pathetic existence.
