Huckabee

Rips Natalie Portman

Over Pregnancy

3/4/2011 12:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Fox News host Mike Huckabee claims Oscar winner Natalie Portman is a bad role model for America -- all because she got knocked up before marriage.

0304-huckabee-portman-bn-getty-01
Huckabee went on a radio show Monday and said, "One of the most troubling things is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet that boasts of, hey look, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having children and they're doing just fine."

Portman is engaged to her baby daddy -- co-star Benjamin Millepied.

Huckabee -- a Republican who could make a run for the White House -- added, "There aren't really a lot of single moms out there that are making millions of dollars each year by being in a movie"

"I think it gives a distorted image that not everybody hires nannies and caretakers and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and would not get healthcare."

So far, Portman has yet to respond.

"Go see how many single moms live in the projects and live off the government. Look how many single moms had to quit school because they got pregnant."

Yeah, and why do we think they're so willing to quit school? Can't use the projects to demonstrate your morals. There are so many layers of problems with the projects that this is a symptom.

And again, not exactly sure how Natalie Portman ties into single mothers.

And final thought; if Republicans want to revert to 1950s morals, then shouldn't they be celebrating Natalie Portman? Isn't this what you're supposed to do? Wasn't that the time that if you got a girl pregnant, you married her by default? Portman was engaged to this man when she got pregnant. So isn't this already a better situation than the years conservatives seem to want to revert to?

Silly sh*t from a schmuck who wants to play culture wars. People who are filthy rich protect their wealth by not getting married. It's obvious that Schmuckabie doesn't understand that or is playing to a crowd that doesn't.

If they're serious about applying God's law, then rape victims should be required to marry to their rapist.

Nancy Reagan was pregnant when she married Ronald Reagan. Also RR was the first divorced President. Yet conservatives hold him up as their idol.

My mother was a single mom of 2 kids for years and she had a job and was not on government money and did just fine for us. This guy is just another ignorant republican that doesn't know much about anything.

@131, Bristol isn't making millions a movie. Get it. Teen pregnancy isn't the issue here. This article isn't about that.

You liberals (so called) spew so much hate on here. Vicious, like a dog with rabies. How do you speak of your peaceful ways then post some of the vile things that you do? Hypocrites.

SOme of you have referred to Bristol as "a pig", "a whore", "fat", "slut", "bitch", "chubby".

Really? Check yourselves.

"""""^^ Yes, you tool and Republicans would nevvvvver do any of that, right? MORON""""

What the hell are you talking about? Are you unable to grasp the fact that some people don't care about politics? You're trying to make me a republican so you can attack me for that? lol.

You're a complete douche bag and you're attitude is exactly why no problems ever get solved. Republicans are every bit as guilty of making a mockery of the institution on marriage.

You need to forget about the political party BS and start using your own head to figure things out.

I don't even see where he said anything bad about Natalie Portman? DO YOU?
All he said was that it was a shame people will see people like her and think it's fine for them to not be as careful about pregnancy or commitment.
It's true! If you can't commit to someone through marriage then you sure as hell better make sure you don't accidentally have a baby with them.
And SPARE ME the BS fairytale relationships where two people live together without ever putting a ring on each others finger. Finding ONE couple that made that work doesnt make it the reality.

Really he thinks she's the problem? at least she almost 30 has a career and can support the child she's having with her fiance. She's not 16 getting pregnant because she thinks she can get a tv deal out of it.

I have to admit, I was surprised that Portman is pregnant before marriage, and if they are engaged, why not be married by now? I did think she was classier than this. She is Harvard-educated.

Yes, it is hypocritical of Huckabee not to mention Bristol as well but Bristol did not become pregnant when she was in the spotlight and a role-model for young women, as Portman definitely is. And I know I live in a glass house like all the rest of us, this is just my honest opinion.
