I was a patient/victim of Dr. Drew Pinsky (if you read his book I was there when the counselor "Betty" was there and died months later of a self-inflicted gunshot after "going out" on heroin). I was a heroin user and Dr. Drew unfortunately knows nothing about withdrawal and when Mike Starr was on the rehab show, Mike was coming off of 180 mg of methadone. No rehab would accept a patient on such a high level. The requirement is to take the patient down to less than 30 mg before starting any type of detox. Also, Dr. Drew was giving Mike Suboxone which is both an opiate anagonist and antagonist that has Naltraxone in it as well. Most of the pain Mike went through detoxing was because of the insanity of his medications. The Naltraxone binds to opiate receptors and puts you into a violent withdrawal. I think what Dr. Drew did to him on that show was cruel. Mike was probably terrified to try to get clean after that mess. It is hard to say goodbye to the talented ones, but often their creativity masks pain too. God Bless Mike and all of his loved ones.

@Derek---Yeah, Mike Starr came across as rude, arrogant, self-absorbed, all of the above in the episodes of Celebrity Rehab. But he is gone now. He has paid his dues. Someone loved him. As I am certain, someone might even love you--try as you might to keep them from that. Give it a rest. Your age is showing!

Truly sad but wasn't surprised and actually expected it.. People just don't seem to appreciate life anymore.

TMZ should edit the tragic feelings of his father, to: "Mike's dad, who allegedly did drugs with his son as do***ented in video from Season 3 of Celebrity Rehab, tells TMZ, "It's a terrible shock and tragedy."

Check it out folks; this "dad" is responsible for encouraging the behavior that contributed to so much distress in Mike's life.

"As an added bonus, Starr often does drugs with his father, with the episode showing footage of the two of them using together." See:

Rehab success rates are probably pretty low regardless of which one you try. Most patients aren't serious about quitting their addictions. Any substance addiction will get you sooner or later. Yea, Charlie is waiting in line for this fate.

Dr. Drew has said that fame is an addiction. He needs to get help. Maybe if Dr. Drew lived a Clean and Sober life, we wouldn't have to have this exploitation going on. The people he treats are patients who need help. Mike even went to aftercare and Pinksy's "Let go, Let God" attitude sure didn't work for Mike. It didn't work for me either. I had to go to a rehab in the Ghetto to find real sobriety by working my tail off, not taking a bunch of pills and sitting around in groups run by people who let the patients get away with things that never would be allowed in a real group just for tv ratings. Terrible.

I hope Mike's family and friends can find comfort in each other and their memories. It is so difficult to lose someone you love.
