Mike Starr -- Mixing Drugs Hours Before Death

3/9/2011 4:00 PM PST BY TMZ STAFF

Alice in Chains bass player Mike Starr was "mixing" methadone and anxiety medication hours before he died ... this according to Mike's roommate.

Mike Starr Drugs

The roommate tells TMZ ... Mike had been using methadone recently in an effort to get sober -- but he had also been taking medication to battle anxiety issues he had been suffering from since his arrest last month.

We're told Mike was doing a pretty good job managing his medication -- but according to Mike's roommate, Starr was "mixing" the meds Monday night .. just hours before he died.

Law enforcement sources tell us Mike's official cause of death has yet to be determined.

Starr's roommate added, "Mike was a beautiful person who was fighting to stay sober ... I am going to miss him greatly."

He never got over Layne's death. He saw too much and could not cope. Mike was a tormented soul and we can only hope he is at peace.

Since methadone is a synthetic drug, and stays in your system over 12 hours, I've heard it's easy to overdose on when combined with other prescription drugs. The stuff is dangerous.

Has Dr. Drew ever successfully cured anybody's addicition?

This reminds me of another story:
Florida Highway Patrol officials say the victims were in a car accident early Saturday morning. They survived the crash and left their car to check on everyone's condition. As they were walking along Interstate 95 in Miami, they were hit by a car.

The moral of the story is that death always comes to collect. If it gives you any solace, we're just all meat in the end.

See you on the other side. Wait, you're probably not going to the same place as me...

Who cares. No surprise. Stupid does as stupid is. He knew better, but still made the choice to do the drugs. "Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time" - Barretta.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

Another dead tortured artist. Layne Staley, Kurt Cobain, the list goes on. These are all people who hate bands like Van Halen or Kiss because of what they represent (?) then end up doing themselves in because they can't handle the daily problems of life. Meanwhile, the people they hate are going about their lives, for better or worse, & have no intention over torturing themselves for their *art*. So he's at rest. With no way back. That is a tragedy & a waste.

Idiotic quote by the even more idiotic Eddie Vedder:

'If it wasn't for music I would've killed myself a long time ago.'

For all you out there who call him a druggie, all I can say is that I hope someday that your eyes will be opened to the fact that addiction is a disease. It isn't just a choice, quit or don't. After using drugs - which may I remind you are prescribed by our lovely doctors regularly - the mind begins to psychologically change. Your body feels as if you need the drugs and your brain tricks you into believing it. Do you feel that mentally handicapped people are also a wasting "our air, eating our food and parking in our spaces".
God makes each of us different, wires each of our brains different - this is something we all need to realize ! By saying that a drug addict is a waste of air, space, etc you are also saying that those who are handicapped by any other debilitating disease are doing the same.... think about that and think of all the Americans you are defaming..

Oh - and for those of you who are writing this human being off as a "waste of air" - that "waste of air" was somebody's son, grandson, brother and dear friend. It could just as easily be YOU as it was Mike. Before you get all high and mighty on yourself, think about that. What if it was your sibling, your child, your friend? Would you be just as judgemental and happy for their demise? I hope you never have to find out - but if you do - consider it Karma.

Yes he did but it isn't all that easy... people get in with the wrong crowds and sometimes they don't realize it till late. But the fact is he od'd on prescription pills.... probably all that different doctors prescribed him to help... All I'm saying is quit calling him a loser and give him a chance to rest in peace. It's like Mom always said "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all" I feel that holds particularly true when a person is deceased. My mom died of alcoholism even after being sober for 9 years... if someone trashed her that way I would have personally sought them out and shot them.... Do you go to a funeral to talk smack about the person who died? Well if you do... you're demented

I was really happy for him when he came to talk to the new group of people, he was looking very good, because when he was in treatment he was VERY scary and threatning.
