Gilbert Gottfried

Fired by Aflac

Over Japan Tweets

3/14/2011 6:55 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Gilbert Gottfried was fired by Aflac from his gig as the voice of its duck mascot in the wake of his controversial series of tweets about the earthquake in Japan.

Gilbert Gottfried Fired Aflac
The company released a statement saying, "Gilbert’s recent comments about the crisis in Japan were lacking in humor and certainly do not represent the thoughts and feelings of anyone at Aflac ... Aflac will immediately set plans in motion to conduct a nationwide casting call to find a new voice of the iconic Aflac Duck."

Attempts to reach Gottfried were not successful.

Dear stupid people. If you can't figure out why it's appropriate for one of the largest life insurers in Japan to fire the voice of their mascot for cracking tasteless jokes at their customers expense, even as they are still deep in the midst of multiple natural disasters that have taken thousands of lives... well damned your stupid.

Dear stupid people, and yes i'm looking at you Ashera. If you can't figure out why it's appropriate for one of the largest life insurers in Japan to fire the voice of their mascot for cracking tasteless "edgy" shock jokes at their customers and beneficiaries expense, even as they are still deep in the midst of multiple natural disasters that have taken thousands of lives... well damned your stupid.

"Attempts to reach Gottfried were not successful."

AFLAC on the other hand had no problem getting through to him. After getting fired the p*ssy promptly did an about face and deleted his "edgy" shock comic jokes about the multiple natural disasters in Japan.

hey Gottfried, if you're going to stake you claim to fame on being an "edgy" shock comic at least have the balls to own what you say, p*ssy.

Sometimes things just aren't funny. Sure, you can try to lighten someone's load by trying to make them laugh, but there is not one funny thing about thousands of people dying and millions losing family members, homes, jobs...lives. How can anyone, no matter how demented or supposedly 'well meaning' think that joking around about the disaster would make anyone laugh or feel better. People who find humor in the suffering of others are one of the things wrong with our society today.

Gilbert Gottfried is stupidest comedian I've ever seen as I saw the news here. No comedians should joke on the natural disasters or wars even if it is unrelated to them, and he's done intentionally. Now, he is exactly the same as Sea Shepherd.

The oh-so sensitive comments preceding mine that agree with AFLAC's actions need to look themselves in the mirror and make sure that they have never offended anyone before they endorse a punishment for disturbing their egg-shell existence. We've ALL offended others in jest, whether on purpose or accidentally. Comedy is escapism - we seek to forget our everyday turmoil by laughing off ourselves and others, and SOMETIMES their situations are tragic. Its not like the Earth committed a purposeful genocide, it was a natural phenomenon that took a horrendous toll on the Japanese people. LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS, the Japanese themselves have shown REMARKABLE ability to absorb this catastrophe and deal with it without pointing fingers at each other, why do others need to impart THEIR punishment for another's attempt at dealing with it?

a long time Leno fan!

Hello?!! C-O-M-E-D-I-A-N-S are supposed to be funny AND their humor can also be off color. Remember Andrew Dice Clay back in his day? Hello, c-o-m-e-d-i-a-n-s, humor, off color.

Since I can remember, comedians ALWAYS made fun of EVERYTHING.

Earthquakes and their damage are horrible events but comedians are there to make people laugh regardless. If you don't like his humor, turn the channel.

Afflac does 75% of their business in Japan. Do you really think they would let their key spokesperson say these types of things about their main source of income? And how would we feel of this happened to us in the US and someone was making these types of comments from a company that we did a large amount of business with? I am sure that the term "free speech" would not be on people's mind's then. It is sad how hypocritical and insensitive some can be.
