I like Gilbert, but this VERY short statement seems more like a PR gambit than a sincere apology. And a bit too late to save his job. Let's here some of his comedian friends make some jokes about his losing his job...you know, turnabout being fair play.
I hate insincere apologies. Obviously he did mean to be offensive, so at least be honest about it.
