Gilbert Gottfried

Sorry About the

Tsunami Jokes

3/15/2011 3:01 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Gilbert Gottfried is eating his incredibly tasteless words -- in fact, the comic just took to Twitter to make a public apology after mocking the victims of the tsunami in Japan ... writing, "I meant no disrespect."

So far, Aflac hasn't rehired him.

I like Gilbert, but this VERY short statement seems more like a PR gambit than a sincere apology. And a bit too late to save his job. Let's here some of his comedian friends make some jokes about his losing his job...you know, turnabout being fair play.

I hate insincere apologies. Obviously he did mean to be offensive, so at least be honest about it.

People do not know how to laugh anymore. He did not say those things to lessen the scope of the tragedy. It is his type of humor. If you don't enjoy it, listen to someone else.

Twitter helps remove the filter on what people say, and reveals who they are on the inside.

Japan is having one of the worse disasters they have ever seen. Gilbert should have known better, and I don't blame Alflac at all. They don't want to be associated with a tasteless comedian who should have known better. What is happening there to all those poor people is no Joke!
