Nate Dogg -- Family Suspects Cause of Death

3/16/2011 1:50 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Nate Dogg's family believes the singer's death was caused by complications stemming from the two strokes he suffered over the past couple of years ... this according to the singer's close friend and manager Rod McGrew.

Nate Dogg Death

McGrew tells TMZ ... Nate's death was unexpected ... since he was making significant progress in his recovery from the most recent stroke he suffered in 2008.

According to McGrew ... Nate was "95% recovered from the first stroke in 2007" ... when the second stroke occurred in 2008 ... leaving Nate partially paralyzed and causing partial memory loss.

But McGrew says Nate had "cognitively fully recovered" -- meaning he got his memory back and was fully alert and aware all the way up to his final days.

McGrew just released a statement on behalf of himself and Nate's family ... saying, "We appreciate the enormous outpouring of response from all over the world. We greatly appreciate that and thank everyone for their prayers and support."

The statement continues, "We know that Nate will be hanging out with his good friends 2Pac and Biggie."

Nate's official cause of death has not been released.

@4

Because he had one of the smoothest voices in Hiphop history.

Any hook he's on automatically becomes soulful.

I think his lifestyle contributed to his death though... it's terrible.

And stop using the world colored, what are we... in the early 1900s?

to #4 - are you serious? Colored man? First off, if you don't know nate dogg, you've lived under a rock. Secondly, to use the statement, "colored man", all you do is verify your ignorance (which we can assume from your screen name)

A growing cause of early strokes, or strokes in younger and younger Americans is cocaine use. Strokes in younger than normal victims spiked at the time of the crack 80s and 90s. ERs were overwhelmed with new young stroke victims. This info is straight from the CDC.

I'm not trying to bash, but to get the word out that crack or coke is no "recreational" drug. Strokes leave victims paralyzed, unable to speak, in need of long and costly hospitalizations which are bankrupting Medicaid.

i mean really a man has died and all you can talk about is race. come on now. if you dont know who nate dogg is then educate your self before you comment on something that you have no clue about. im not going to remember him for his color but for the sound of his voice and the songs he had done or featured in. the music community has lost a good man. he will be missed.
