Jimmy Buffett Sinks Teeth Into 'Tiger Blood'

3/18/2011 1:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Jimmy Buffett is trying to capitalize on the Charlie Sheen phenomenon ... the prince of 'parrot heads' just filed papers to create a drink called Tiger Blood.

According to documents filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and obtained by TMZ  -- Margaritaville Enterprises LLC, owned by the singer, filed two applications on March 15 to trademark "Tiger Blood" for use in vodka and energy drinks.

As TMZ previously reported -- Tiger Blood is Charlie Sheen's codename for his mangosteen-infused fruit smoothie,  Xango juice.

Interesting ... if Jimmy's application goes through, Charlie won't be able to capitalize on what he made famous -- but then again, there's more to life than vodka and energy drinks.

Hey Now

I would think that all Charlie has to do is tell people or his fans or whatever not to buy it because it's fake Tiger's Blood lol Made by those 'turds' who are trying to capitalize off of him.

He could spin that pretty well.

I would hope that the intention to 'steal' away someway's idea is apparent to the courts or whomever decides that. And don't say Charlie's team hasn't thought about doing that or he wouldn't have been 'pretend drinking' whatever beverage he was drinking on that rooftop and saying it was Tiger's Blood.

I could probably think of more ideas for Charlie if he were to decide to randomly contact me (lwish45@yahoo.com)

Pathetic. Buffett doesn't have enough money so he has to rip-off MaSheen? What a loser.

As mentioned in TMZ'z live cast "Lawyer Friday", "(13:10) Charlie Sheen should have trademarked "Tiger Blood" right when he started yapping about it."

Exactly.

Looks like Buffet isn't the only one "beating" Charlie to the "trademark office" (see article below). Since Charlie failed to plan ahead and to trademark his catch phrases, his people are now forced to resort to a rarely used legal mop up tactic - publicity rights. Maybe they will win, maybe they will settle, maybe not. Whatever.

My point is (and has been all along) that for a super-special-winning-guy-with-god-like-powers-and-a-rock-star-master-plan, Charlie sure is looking pretty ordinary (at best and not to be confused with normal) to me.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Now that Charlie Sheen is going on tour and selling merchandise bearing his famous slogans, his reps are clamping down on vendors selling goods that trade off the much-followed Sheen saga.

FEA Merchandising, a subsidiary of Live Nation, has been busy in the past 48 hours, sending takedown notices and cease-and-desist letters in an attempt to own the exclusive market on Charlie Sheen merchandise. In the process, the company has stepped on the toes of a woman's rights group protesting the Sheen saga with a charitable endeavor.

As we reported Thursday, a number of companies and individuals have already beaten Sheen to the trademark office, registering such catch-phrases as "winning," "tiger blood," and "Adonis DNA." Without a firm trademark stake over these marks, FEA has been exploiting a different protection maneuver -- claiming that products that bear Sheen's words violate his publicity rights.

That's a douchey thing to do. I've been wondering why Charlie hasn't copyrighted his catchphrases. If Paris Hilton could copyright "that's hot", Charlie Sheen could definitely copyright his many sayings.

Well, actually trademarking not copyrighting would be the way to go with catch-phrases - but - yeah - that's exactly right. Paris built her brand-and part of her branding was the catch-phrase "that's hot" which she did trademark. Charlie might have saved himself a lot of trouble if he had simply done the same thing up front. But, my guess is that he wasn't/isn't bothered with that sort of detail in his current elevated state of being - and now the devil is in the details.

Like Charlie needed another war on his hands right now - but that evidently is what he's got according to the media - a trademark war. Brings new meaning to the old saying "divide and conquer". He is fighting on so many different fronts now that whatever ability he has to attend to business will be sorely taxed. Really, Charlie's frontal lobes aka executive function - pretty much missing-in-action, IMO.

You know, it may be douchey for people to trademark the catch phrases that Charlie has been using recently, but here's the thing....

Charlie has also been repeatedly hurling degrading insults and dares at people - daring them to try to keep up with him. The fact of the matter is, some people are clearly way ahead of him. Reality's a bitch sometimes.

Some of the responsibility resides with Charlie for making those dares in the first place. At the same time, as others have pointed out here in discussion, its not a good thing for people to exploit someone who is vulnerable due to mental illness.

However, Charlie can still get trademarks on specific applications that haven't as yet been trademarked by others - if he should so choose.

I would imagine Charlie Sheen's people slapped a copyright on that name immediately after he popularized the phrase. And come on, Jimmy Buffet has to take that phrase? Jimmy Buffet's music is arguably the worst stuff that has ever been released. And he makes an extremely overpriced blender. But for some reason, alcoholic middle aged white people still love him. "Aids burger in paradise!"

I'm disappointed. Charlie Sheen is not what "paradise" represents and should not be associated with it. I can't imagine that the Parrotheads would approve of this.

That's really low of Jimmy Buffet. Very disappointed in him. He did not coin the term Tiger Blood. Slimy to do that to anyone, even Sheen. KM

"Vodka in energy drinks? That's stupid. Alcohol is a depressant. So they are mixing uppers with downers, which means it all cancels each other out."

First, the trademark is for vodka AND energy drinks. Not "in".

Second, they DON'T cancel each other out because the ingredients don't exist in equal portions. Are you familiar with an alcoholic energy drink called "Four Loco"?

Yeah, wouldn't that make sense? Although its a trademark for a catch phrase not a copyright. But, no, seems that no one in Sheen's Korner had that much business a***en, including Sheen himself. That's why Charlie is now facing a trademark war (including other legal actions). Google it.
