'Pawn Stars' Missile -- The Explosive Photo

3/22/2011 7:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

It's the missile guidance system thingy that launched a full-scale Federal investigation into "Pawn Stars" -- and now, TMZ has obtained a photo of its GREEN ORB OF DOOM.

Okay, we pretty much have no idea what we're looking at -- but we're told it's part of the guidance system used on an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile ... typically launched out of F-4 Phantom fighter jets.

TMZ broke the story ... the person who sold the parts to the "Pawn Stars" guys earlier this month claimed her father bought the parts LEGALLY at a military auction back in the '80s.

As far as we know, the government hasn't confiscated it yet -- but who cares ... look how shiny it is!

Wow only one comment on the safety of the US... Yet if it was something about Charlie Sheen. We would see hundreds. When will we wake up and see that our security and the security of the world is just a few dollars away for people. thanks God this time someone who would not harm us has it. Next time we may not be so lucky. Or maybe some more are out there in the hands of people wishing to hurt us. Think about this TMZ thanks for giving us the 411 on our security. It Sucks from where I stand... Lets go Obama is this the Change we asked for. I think NOT..........

sorry guys,
thats not the raydome of an aim-120 missile.aim-120 is a current generation air to air long range fire and forget missile.that looks like a nose section of an agm-65 air to ground missile which is TV or IR guided and a much older version of US tech, which would have been used on a F-4 which is now an air to air drone we shoot down for pilot training....

Um, I think Doc Brown from Back to the Future made that out of old pinball machine parts in the 1980s. That's silly looking, I seriously doubt that is legitimate equipment. Looks like the Jolly Green Giant's tampon.

It's no AMRAAM like Dave said... see this picture of an AMRAAM:

Dave is correct. And it is real. It's the TV/Electronics package to an AGM-65a Maverick air-to-ground missile.I used to work on them. That part slides into the front part of the body.Right behind it is where the explosive charge is at.Alone it is useless.

Hope they didn't pay much. You can find them easy at military salvage sales.

Yeah,it's definitely not an AIM-120.They didn't even start to deploy them till 2 years after the last fighter version of the F-4 was replaced.
