Little People Sue 'The Soup'

They Defamed Us!

3/29/2011 10:40 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A  dwarf couple is suing E! Entertainment and "The Soup" host Joel McHale, claiming they made scurrilous, false, defamatory and hurtful comments about them.

Cara and Gibson Reynolds are dwarfs who struggled for years to have children. One child died a day after birth, but they were finally able to conceive a healthy baby.

The Reynolds' did an interview with the Associated Press about dwarf couples who want to screen their embryos for genetic defects in an effort to intentionally have healthy, dwarf children.  They say the article and photo of them was limited to the AP article (reprinted on MSNBC.com).

Fast forward to 2009, when McHale and company did a spoof on "The Soup" titled, "Fertile Little Tattooed Pageant Parents Who Enjoy Baking."  McHale said it was the newest reality show, and then proceeded to show the AP photo of the Reynolds, saying they are "happy dwarfs ... that can't stop procreating."

And it got worse.  "The Soup" then allegedly showed a woman purported to be Cara in labor, in the process of giving birth in a bathroom.

Cara claims the piece was so upsetting, she suffered, "depression, insomnia, upset stomach, sleep interference and experiencing feelings of shame and degradation."

The Reynolds are suing for defamation and invasion of privacy.

We could not immediately reach E! for comment.

Overall, comedians state that ANYTHING they say is a JOKE. Sometimes, I think its just bullying disguised as being "funny."

Midgets creep me out. Sorry I know it's wrong and bad but at least I'm honest. I'm not proud of it.

Why don't you do something to confront your fear of them then? Educate yourself then it will eliminate your fears.

Joel does that to everyone. Why should they be singled out? She took it a little too hard though. Maybe he should have his people call them to apologize.

It's just what The Soup does! The lawsuit is ridiculous! If they were so concerned with privacy, they shouldn't have done any interviews at all. Once it's out there it's a matter of public property! I hope they get nothing! I LOVE THE SOUP!

I agree. Sue them. They shouldn't make a joke of everything/everybody.

I can... this sh*t must stop, whatever happened to civility, respect, dignity... and how does folks like Joel perceive themselves in the larger community of decent people [vs. Hollywood d-bags], a "good person" or just another Hollywood d-bag pushing the envelope just A LITTLE MORE, until the Kool-Aid has gotten so potent that those who imbibe that B.S. spew from the media has consume a semblance of decency and morality-then the media will turn the tables on the society and ask the reason "why"

But always remember there's one group where that sh*t doesn't fly - AT ALL, JEWS!!!!! Despite their claims of the value of "humor" to confront the elements of hate, prejudice and stereotypes [as long as they're not the object-because they know their brand of "humor" only serve to fester and inculcate hate... Not suggesting the Joel McHale is a Jew-although he might be, but he knows what the parameters are, and not to cross it if he wants to keep his job.

E! and The Soup would really have something to worry about if it wasn't for numerous Supreme Court decisions declaring parody a protected form of free speech!

What is funny about being made fun of just because you are a little person. NOTHING. Hope they win their suit.
