'Final Four' Bulldog Mascot -- Flying Like a BOSS

3/30/2011 9:50 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The mascot for the Butler Bulldogs is getting the royal treatment -- in fact, the 7-year-old dog named Blue 2 not only has his own seat on a CHARTERED PLANE to the Final Four ... he's staying at a 4-star hotel.

Blue 2's handler Michael Kaltenmark tells TMZ, the 63-pound English bulldog is leaving for Houston on Friday ... aboard a special chartered Southwest flight for Butler fans -- and get this ... Blue 2's got his OWN SEAT.

We're told it's Blue 2's second trip to the Final Four -- but it's the first time he'll be shacking up with the elite when he gets there ... at Houston's 4-star Intercontinental hotel.

In fact, Blue 2's so popular -- he'll be getting his own security detail once he lands.

But Blue's got a LOT to do before he takes off -- we're told Blue 2's got an appointment with a dog spa in Indianapolis later today ... where he'll get his hair washed and dried, his nails done ... and then finish things off with a little doggie cologne. Yes, it exists.

I love BlueII, he is a part of the team and as such he should be given the priveledge to attend the game, and if it's first class who cares, who wouldn't want to be going to the Final Four First Class all the Way, Go DAWGS!!!!

Often the families of players can't afford to travel to see their kids play, because even though the NCAA makes BILLIONS, they make sure not one penny goes to help the players, but at least the dog gets to see the game.

Please don't

TJ - You're an idiot. Blue goes because of donations and its not like its $1 mil to send him there. It probably cost the dog maybe $100 bucks. The area Butler is in is a very tight knit community and love Butler University. They do a lot for the school. And you say that the NCAA makes millions but doesn't help the players out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the NCAA pays for these players education with scholarships. Most of these players would never be able to get an education but because of the NCAA they get something that is more valuable than the playing basketball. Maybe you need to get off your high horse and stop feeling sorry for yourself.

We love our boy Blue! We started a twitter campaign weeks ago to allow ButlerBlue2 to attend the tourney games (on his owners own dime) - called it #FreeButlerBlue2. NCAA said no - too tight of turnaround between games & limited space. Let's face it, the NCAA & CBS made bank on all the cute bulldog shots they used as intros & fillers during the Final 4 telecast last year. He's even smarter than Charles Barkley & they don't have to pay him a dime. Anyway, Indianapolis loves Blue & we are excited he's finally going to the games. Thanks ESPN, NBC, USA Today, NY Times and all the other radio/tv/web outlets that have showed him some love! You can follow Blue on twitter: @ButlerBlue2. GO DAWGS!!!!!!

How petty of people to think that the team should be without their mascot for a big game because he's a canine. smh. Jealous?

Butler must be a cool school if they chose a bulldog as their mascot.

tg, get over yourself. You obviously don't care for dogs very much to make such an ignorant comment. Maybe if more people were encouraged to get spayed/neutured there wouldn't be so many starving children in the world which is btw, so irrelevant to this. Get a life!
This was a great little story in a world of so much negativity and a lot of us enjoyed it so bite me, wroof wroof! This dog is probably better behaved and has more class than most of the professional athletes we see on here charged with all kinds of terrible stuff. Give me dogs over people any day.
