'Make-A-Wish' Kid to Barefoot C: Don't Call Us ...

3/30/2011 2:35 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten just learned a hard lesson ... late is not always better than never ... because she just got blown off by the family of a "Make-a-Wish" boy.

Barefoot Contessa

You'll recall ... Enzo -- a 6-year-old with cancer -- wanted to cook a meal with Ina, but she couldn't find the time.

After TMZ broke the story, Ina took lots of heat.  So Monday night she called Enzo's family and offered for them to come to the Food Network for a cookout.

Enzo's dad Adrian tells us ... the ship has sailed:  "I don't want to put my son through all these emotions.  We're better off just leaving everything the way it is."

As TMZ previously reported -- Enzo's new wish to swim with dolphins is already in the works, and Adrian tells us it will be fulfilled in August.

With success should come some degree of humanity and responsibility. I realize that in the world today, this is not always the case, as many have truly lost their compassion for others. It is much more common to be self driven. I am a successful individual now, but at the time my 6 year old son was diagnosed with cancer and a brain tumor our world came to a hault. The joy at that time that the Make-A-Wish foundation brought to my son by granting his wish and those in the public eye involved, will never be forgotten. It is truly an amazing foundation. The happiness they brough to him before his dear little life came to an end, moved many people. More importantly our dear son made an impact on their lives personally when they paused to reach out and give of their time. I will not share the names of the well known folks involved as they did not want that. This was nearly 16 years ago. People often forgot during their successful life phases, that we are all just human and one day we will rely on others to show their compassion towards us if we live long enough in this world. There are times in life that we all should pause, and help others. I was a fan of Ina's, and I realize her schedule may be busy---as we all area at times---but this was truly a missed opportunity for her to receive a blessing through granting this wish for such a dear little child.

i think he should go. he apparently really wanted this to wish it twice. he should have the opportunity to let her help heal the pain she caused him.

There are two kinds of people in the world: the wish granters and people who think like, and are willing to defend, Ina Garten. I am still astounded at the reasons you Ina-sympathizers offer as a defense for her actions. They are unbelievablly self-serving. I think most of you are people she has hired to defend her on the blogs, or people who share her lack of empathy towards others (that indicates a life of privilege to me). Thank GOD that there are more wish granters out there than you people. The more you defend this woman the more you reveal your own heartless souls. Ina did a bad thing and for that she will be punished. Wait and see. Her career is OVAH! Bravo to TMZ for bringing this story to light!

Shame on you Ina! I lost all respect for you. Who could say no to this child, not once, but twice. I will never buy another book or watch your cooking show again. You just didn't want to take the time out of your schedule to make his wish come true!

It's amazing how cold and nasty people are willing to be behind the anonymity of the internet -- and how willing to be deliberately dumb. The facts are pretty obvious, and even if you love this gross woman you should be able to see she bungled this HUGE. It would have been one thing to write a nice letter, maybe autograph a book for the kid or a picture.

It's quite another to say, "F-off." Even the article gives her too much credit. She never said she couldn't find the time. She said no way, dying kid. People are quite right to make a judgment about such a person and not want to watch them anymore, much less spend money supporting them.

Seriously, this is just disgusting. It's like when the President made fun of the Special Olympians. There are some people you just shouldn't knock.

Screw the kid. The whole thing was a publicity stunt from I suspect the father. Maybe the whole affair will be a thing of the past when he drowns swimming with the dolphins or his drowns while complaining that the dolphins refuse to cooperate.

Screw the kid. The whole thing is just a publicity stunt probably staged by dad. The dolphins will probably drown the kid and the dad when he accuses them of being uncooperative. Oh well, make another wish, "Please don't let me be a continuing A*hole.

"Ethhics" and "Soory"? Use spell check!
Your child was not interested in food? My child was interested in food specifically donuts and wanted to be a policeman when he grew up so he could eat them. He was three years old when he expressed that idea. The other child was a pizza fanatic.
For heaven's sake, children do watch cooking programs on television. Some of them like to watch other PBS programs besides Sesame Street. One of my children loved to watch surgical procedures and mechanically related programming. By age 8 he was repairing computers.
There is nothing unusual about a child Enzo's age viewing a cooking show or wanting to cook with a chef.
Given your writing and need to paste information we may assume your child was not allowed to express themselves or that bright. So, that explains everything. You were a control freak and had a dumb kid.

With celebrity and all the benefits of a glorious life, comes with it some social responsibility. To Ina and all the other lucky celebs who made it--have a little humility and gratitude so that when you are asked to give back a little, you do it; and not only do it, but do it with joy. Shame on you Ina...I for one will no longer watch your show; can't support someone I don't respect.

Any kid whose dying wish is to cook a meal with a 60 year old woman has something seriously wrong with him besides cancer....

Better the kid swim with the dolphins - than cook with the whale.
