Lindsay Lohan

By Victoria Gotti

4/8/2011 8:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan beat out Blake Lively AND Sienna Miller for her new role as Victoria Gotti -- and TMZ has learned ... Victoria herself made sure that happened.

Sources close to the production tell TMZ, producers were considering both Blake and Sienna for the role -- but John Gotti's famously blonde daughter wasn't having it, insisting Lindsay get the role instead ... and producers loved the idea.

Not all that surprising -- according to sources, Victoria is a good friend of the Lohan family ... and she often spends time with them on Long Island.

Meanwhile, Lindsay is currently in L.A. auditioning for "Superman" -- but we're told she already has a plane ticket back to NYC for April 12th ... to close the Gotti deal for good.

"Feel free to copy, paste and send:"

As an old radical, have to warn you that identical letters are likely to be dropped in the circular file and not even counted. Better to tell people to write their own letter, if so moved, in their own style and emphasizing their own feelings. I know that organizations do provide template letters like this in letter-writing campaigns, but it really isn't very effective. (Likewise for "internet petitions", which are as effective as TMZ polls for the same reasons, too easily skewed by a passionate few.) Sometimes a list of "talking points" can be useful, but copy-paste - not really.

More likely either the producers already know the pros and cons or if they're curious about public opinion - they would run their own polls.

Still don't see why they'd take a chance on her at the moment, since she's too likely to be in and out of court and in and out of jail or prison if she keeps going the way she is. But maybe they would if the filming is far, far away and the role is basically a walk-on and she's willing to work cheap enough (assuming they think she's capable of the role). If she's obviously cuffed, er, tied up and can't be relied upon by the time they will be ready to film that part, wouldn't be hard to plug another person into such a role. They would probably decide that in plenty of time to cast someone else. The real risk would be for a role requiring significant screen time.

The producer of this movie really has nothing better to do than just piss money down the drain with that train-wreck on board! I guess Hollywood has nothing better to do than invest in 'movies' that stand a snow-boards chance in hell of getting off the ground let alone to include a known 'FLAKE' of a has-been, that never-was!
