Pia After 'Idol' -- 'Everyone Was Sobbing'

4/8/2011 3:49 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Pia Toscano and the rest of the "American idol" finalists were a crying mess after the 22-year-old's shocking elimination last night -- sources connected with the show tell TMZ.

Pia Toscano American Idol
"Everyone was sobbing" after the show, says one of our "Idol" spies.  We're told Pia was probably the most popular contestant among the contestants, and, "They were totally bummed out she was leaving."

The contestants -- sans Pia -- showed up for the "Kiss Off Dinner" at a restaurant in L.A.  Pia made her entrance after everyone was seated  ... followed by tears, more tears, and then one of the producers put it in perspective to make it all better, saying, "The point of 'Idol' is to launch careers.  Pia, you're launched."

We're told Pia didn't check out of the "Idol" hotel last night, but she'll be out of there today.

UPDATE: Apparently, Pia ran out of tears, because earlier today she was seen out in L.A. with a big, fat smile on her face.

IMO, Judges ARE to blame.... They used the 'Save' way to early; judges are nothing but a love fest & not giving the critisism to the contestants in a way they would take it seriously for fear of hurting their feelings; none of the judges want to come across as the bad guy to hurt feelings; judges obviously haven't realized their voting demographics are tweens & teens, therefore, voting/texting/phone TONS of times into hours for their fav'; since the age limit was dropped the demographics have changed & basically voting is geared more towards popularity, the cute guys & perhaps a gal they can relate to rather than based on voice or talent. Judges need to step it up, stop trying to be everyone's buddy, the nice guy, & face the fact that this is supposed to be a talent contest & judge it accordingly.... One more thing, the way the judges behaved last night, IMO, was uncalled for, it not only was unprofessional but also encouraged those in the audience to boo/shout & follow suit for with the judges behavior gave them the green light & the stamp of approval from the judges to continue... I feel bad for the other contestants for it was obvious to them what & who the judges wanted, wasn't one of them who wern't voted off... Poor sportsmanship & definately not professional on the judges behalf.. IMO, judges are 'to judge', 'critique' & 'remain NEUTRAL regardless if they have a fav' or not...... If anyone, I would have thought Randy would have stepped it up by now, however, it appeared every time he did 'try', he was shot down by the newbie' judges who 'wanted to be liked & loved'.......
Like it or not, this is a 'contest' & someone MUST leave every week to reach a final two.....

Jennifer Lopez makes no secret about favoring the mexicans. She cries when they are eliminated. Steven Tyler has nothing to say of any value. He seems to be there just for comedic relief and add some interest to the show.

The judges did insult the audience last night. They've done it before. They also insulted the rest of the contestants.

This is a contest. Every week, a contestant will be eliminated. Might as well get used to it. (Is this a well kept secret or something?)

The show has a panel of judges who select the group of contestants for the tv show portion. Then the PUBLIC become the judges for the rest of the show. The basis of the show is that the public will vote and select who they think they want to buy products and concert tickets from. That's what they do, every week. It is completely inappropriate for the judges to then call the public stupid when they vote for their personal choices. If you didn't want the public's opinion, you should never have asked for it. The success of the performer will depend on the public, not on "JLo" crying for the mexicans or Tyler ogling the young girls. They don't buy things anyway; someone gets them complimentary copies of whatever they want, I'll bet.

These judges need to APOLOGIZE to America next week.

Simon was a jerk but at least he offered some smart-ass, witty, constructive criticism. These judges are cheerleaders.

@lola
Pia is ITALIAN. Dipsh.it.
And I do believe Stefano is Italian as well. Langone??
The only "Mexican" to have left was that one chick. So unimpressed with her and her always "bilingual" ballads, can't remember her name.

People don't blame the judges. Don't blame "conspiracies", setups, etc. Blame only yourself if you didn't vote!
I was voting for her and James up until the top 11, and I NEVER had a problem getting through to her line.
She has a fantastic voice, but absolutely *no* stage presence. That will probably improve (hopefully) on the tour this summer. Again, I think she has an amazing voice and she's a very pretty young woman. But....that "it" factor just isn't there. An American Idol OWNS their stage (or any truly great performer). If she ever gets over her stage fright, she could be really great. Maybe as the judges said, another KC?? Idk about that, but she could be good. {o:

what a beautiful day

The fans of Idol made the right choice of not giving Pia the votes. She was very boring.

I agree that is the young teenie bopper girls flooding the votes. How else can you explain Paul Macdonald being in the competition he sings like kermit the frog with a guitar.

Pia had the voice, by far, Jacob a little too gay probably. I would assume that all the little tweener's like someone else. She had class, not what you are looking for. The old people need to vote(40-60...). I don't think Jennifer was wrong. Remember Jennifer Hudson, I'm off IDOL!

OMG, I don't believe it..She was the best. What's going on? OK, let's look at the bright side, maybe it's all for the best. She'll have an agent / sponsor and won't have to continue with what ever they have to do for American Idol after they win. (hmm) Hang in there Pia, you're great.

I have to say I was pretty upset when she left. However, after reading all of your comments, many of you are right. She really didn't have any stage presence at all. And she was pretty ****y. She knew she was pretty and that kinda bugged. Everyone should have confidence and good self-esteem of course but she put confidence and self-esteem to shame. I'm sure she'll still get a record deal somewhere and we'll see her again!

I don't watch AI but it seems like the contestants who DON'T win wind up with a better career than the contestant who wins so Pia shouldn't feel bad she was voted off.
