'Idol' Finalist -- Saved By REAL Judge After Arrest

4/15/2011 10:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

"American Idol" finalist Jacob Lusk threw himself at the mercy of a court back in November -- begging a judge to end his probation from a 2009 arrest so he could compete on "A.I." ... TMZ has learned.

0414_ex_mugshot_2_jacob_lusk

It all started back in February 2009 -- when cops cited Jacob for riding on an L.A. metro train without buying a ticket. Jacob blew off his court hearing and an arrest warrant was issued.

Fast forward to Nov. 2010 -- a day after Jacob auditioned for "Idol" and got his golden ticket to Hollywood -- Lusk was pulled over for a traffic stop. The cop discovered the warrant and arrested him.

Jacob went to jail and then to court the next day and pled no contest to the train-hopping charge.  He was sentenced to 3 days in jail and 2 years probation.

Jacob served his time and then went back to court, telling the judge "Idol" wouldn't let him on the show if he was on probation.  After his emotional plea, the merciful judge terminated his probation.

Fun Fact -- On night one in the pokey, Jacob sang to 170 inmates, who liked it a lot.  Thing is, the guard wasn't a fan, screaming through the loud speaker, "This isn't a f**king singing contest."

Undaunted, we're told Lusk sang over the next day-and-a-half, preparing for "Idol."  And on his last day, Lusk sang a farewell song, and another guard went on the loud speaker and said it was "bad ass!"

UPDATE: Lusk tweeted this morning, "I've been through a whole lot more than folks would know in this lifetime...BUT GOD has KEPT ME...and I am so thankful! Be blessed!"

I knew it! He's hiding behind his churchy image. This season sucks big time! Sick of how ****y country Scotty is.........Lauren is a Miley wanna be...Haley thinks her short dresses will get her far..James is an Adam Lambert wanna be....Jacob is a screaming church singer....Paul had a nails on chalkboard voice.....Casey is just plain creepy.....and Stefano is nothing special either....the judges have built all these non special singers into big fat head inflated egos.....I miss Simon and his "what the hell was that" attitude.

ME about an hour ago all you fn idiots are not actually reading the story! he was not arrested for skipping out on a train fare, he was given a summons!!! get it? he was arrested for a warrant for not paying his fine and not showing up to court!!! get it? automatic warrant issued for arrest!!! get it now?

The point is that he WAS given 2 years probation and jail time after pleading no contest to the no train fair charge. Who gives a sh*t if he skipped out on court for a no fair bus charge, giving him 2 years probation and 3 days jails is nuts especially if he doesnt have a criminal record.

Well, well, well....got lots to say here. First of all, what about that poor gal who tried out for Idol a few seasons ago: first year she had to leave to deal with some family issue. Next year she had to go back home to deal with legal issues over parking tickets. My feeling is that Jacob just didn't happen to ride the train by mistake without paying...that was a conscious choice and if there's a fine for it, then fess up and pay it. He BLEW IT OFF, which was also a conscioius, intentional choice. Poor judgement, my friend. Got pulled over for speeding? Some things come back to bite you in the ass, Jacob if you don't resolve issues! Now, present day Idol: Jacob wouldn't sing a song during R & R Hall of Fame week because it didn't speak to his morals? Going to jail speaks of your morals? Stealing a ride from the train speaks of your morals? SKIPPING OUT on a legal matter against you speaks to your morals? I say that Jacob Lusk is a big phony-balony! I'm very disappointed reading about this after watching him all this season with that "Holier than thou" attitude and his mama and grammy watching him perform. He ought to be ashamed and he owes Idol fans a public explanation and apology because American people can accept someone making a mistake and making ammends for it. What the public does not like is being misled and lied to, as Jacob has done. Perhaps in that "Getting to Know You" segement which featured the Top Whatever Number offering a "little known fact about themselves" this big ol' Shamu should have said, "Little known fact about me? I've been in jail for stealing a ride off the train, blowing off my court date to address this indiscretion, and after getting caught for a speeding ticket, the warrant for my arrest came to light and I went to jail!" I hope this joker and liar goes home next week because I have no regard for him now!

all he had to do was show up to court and pay a fine finished business...but he decided to blow off court and look what happened, arrest warrant.no one knows his criminal history so dont play the cause he is black card. maybe play the he is not rich card like the celebs who get awat with everything.ending to story was his probation was dismissed so he did NOT get 2 yrs. probation

If he had a criminal record TMZ would be all over it by now.

Yes he blew off his court date for not paying a bus fair but to throw the book at him is crazy. If it was Lindsay Lohan or some other D list celeb you bet they would of had an arrest warrant issued of course but when it came time to be sentenced they would have gotten a 50 buck fine and be off scotch free.

This just goes to show what happens to the average folk in LA.

W for sure there is a double standard in this country.

Lindsey, Charlie, and Paris never will go to jail. Yet, a black kid will get life for hopping the train and not showing up for court. What's wrong with this picture?

BTW: Jennifer Lopez and the Most Beautiful? Sure, stars are beautiful when glammed up...but how much of a looker is she without her makeup and crew?

Steven Tyler should have his face set in plaster or something to cast a mold for a mask in the upcoming Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. He's one creepy, ugly, dude!

That guy can sing, and that is all that matters. Half the celebs out there are stone cold criminals anyhow and people are concerned with this kid jumping on a train without money?

TO: Liz, It's called commentary...personal comments/opinions allowed. Go on to lots of Idol posts and see that a lot of people, total strangers, all feel or comment the same way. American Idol has become a circus act...you'd have to be nuts to take any of it seriously!
