Star Mag -- Katie Holmes AIN'T No Drug Addict

4/27/2011 9:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Star Magazine just issued a MASSIVE mea culpa to Katie Holmes -- publishing an apology on the COVER of its latest issue ... after the tabloid printed a headline suggesting Katie was a drug addict.

Katie Holmes Star Magazine
Katie filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against the magazine last month, claiming Star's January headline -- "ADDICTION NIGHTMARE! Katie DRUG SHOCKER! -- was "untrue, unethical and unlawful."

Katie Holmes Drugs

Katie's rep tells TMZ, the lawsuit is now water under the bridge ... that it's been settled ... and Star's publisher American Media even made a "substantial" donation to Katie's charity.

As for Star's in-mag apology -- it reads in part, “Star did not intend to suggest that Ms. Holmes was a drug addict or was undergoing treatment for a drug addiction.  Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misperception ..."

Katie released her own statement today, saying, “I’m pleased that this lawsuit could be resolved amicably and accept American Media’s apology.”

Anyone who can stomach having a kid with Cruise needs drugs. Tom must have had Katie dress up like a man and face the other direction.

Does anyone know what charity (or CHURCH) got the dough?

The Scientology Enforcers obviously got Star Magazine to back off, it's known that they have an incredible amount of legal muscle.

Why, why, why did she settle?! That'd been a slam dunk and taught those salacious magazines another lesson! Enough of those and the lies will have to stop!

Katie Holmes is a WACK-O anyways. She is nothing but a Scientology Stepford Wife!

I'm sure it wasn't Katie dealing with the Tabloids, it was that controlling nut ball husband!

The Co$ was displeased so I'm sure they threatened to shut down The Star in a sea of litigation.

Uh, oh, remember what Star Magazine still said back in March? “Star fully stands behind the editorial integrity of what we have published” Yeah, right. Opportunists of the really bad kind. I wonder what charity this substantial donation is going to? Here are a couple of charitable non-profit organizations with proven results:

Applied Scholastics International, a nonprofit educational organization based in Missouri, was founded by a consortium of American educators in 1972. Administered by the Association for Better Living and Education, it is dedicated to the broad implementation of learning tools researched and developed by American author and educator L. Ron Hubbard.

Narconon International provides drug information, education about the effects of drugs and effective drug rehabilitation programs for those already in the grip of addiction.

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2001 by Dr. Mary Shuttleworth, an educator born and raised in apartheid South Africa, where she witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of discrimination and the lack of basic human rights.

Scientology has large numbers of attorneys who are earning their way to heaven by working pro bono for the organization. Nothing is too small to escape their wrath. However, Scientologists don't tolerate drug use and neither does Cruise so I'm guessing she's just extremely depressed.

If I was Katie's lawyer I wouldn't have let them get away with that apology. It is OBVIOUS from the cover headline that they were claiming she was a drug addict. Letting them claim they "didn't intend" to do what they did is a lie. Of course that's what they meant... they wanted to sell magazines.

"Addiction Nightmare" "Drug Shocker"
How can they sit there and issue an apology in which they say they didn't mean to imply Katie is addicted to drugs? That is the lamest apology ever. That is exactly what they meant to imply. That's how they sell magazines.
