Atlanta Braves Coach Placed on 'Administrative Leave'

4/29/2011 12:35 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Atlanta Braves pitching coach Roger McDowell has been placed on "administrative leave" -- after he allegedly hurled several gay slurs at male fans during a game in San Francisco last weekend.

As we previously reported, a family of four -- including two 9-year-old girls -- went public with their accusations this week ... claiming McDowell made several homophobic remarks toward fans at AT&T Park ... and then mockingly proceeded to simulate gay sex with a baseball bat.

The father of the family claims he confronted McDowell -- who allegedly responded by approaching him with the bat, and saying, "How much are your teeth worth?"

McDowell has since apologized for the outburst -- but the Braves have suspended his coaching duties pending an investigation into the allegations.

UPDATE: GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios just released a statement, telling TMZ, “It remains to be seen whether the Atlanta Braves will take real disciplinary action and send a clear message that there is no place for anti-gay remarks or violent threats in baseball."

I'm not surprised by this at all. Prejudice will always be around because people have hate in their hearts.

The only reason it's not out in the open ALL the time is because there are laws and people don't want to face the consequences these laws will bring.

Until our heart condition change we will always have prejudice, but we don't have to accept it so be prepared to hear stores like this forever because it will never change.

He's not a child. Saying you're sorry doesn't fix everything. When you are a "Big Boy" you have to be mature enough not to do those things in the first place...that's past an apology.

This is so gay! By "gay" do I refer to happy, homosexual, or lame?

Sodomites and lesbians deserve every slur thrown at them and worse. They hate God and nature as He intended. They have a right to their perverted lifestyle. This coach has a constitutional right to freedom of speech. Why are gays allowed to offend, spread disease, and kill with their lifestyle while denying others their right? They call each other gay slurs. Stop this word police madness. Tell the truth about gays. They are hateful, miserable, ungodly people who will answer to God one day. Lord hasten that day!

Anyone who cries about "political correctness" just wants to be able to say all kinds of nasty racist and homophobic **** and get away with it. Like the "gud ole dayz."

Stop fixating on the gay issue. McDowell threatened to hit a man with a bat in front of his kids. For that alone, he deserves to be fired.

Roger McDowell should be fired for making lewd comments and simulating sex in front of children. If you think that kind of behavior by a major league baseball (MLB) coach in front of children at a MLB ballpark is acceptable, then you have have serious mental problems. That's it. That's all.

What has really angered us in San Francisco is not the gay slurs. Its the fact this "coach" when asked by a father to watch his language in front of his two young girls responded by saying "A baseball game is no f-ing place for kids" and "how much are your teeth worth to you"?
And just to set the record "straight" there are 750,000 people living in San Francisco, its estimated that 20% are gay. Please do the math, before you post everyone here is gay, far from it.
