'Home Alone' House -- For SAAAAAAAAAALE!

5/5/2011 10:25 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The iconic home of the McCallisters in the "Home Alone" movies is officially on the market -- and it could be yours if you can cough up $2.4 MILLION!

The 1920's colonial Georgian home -- located in the Chicago suburb of Winnetka -- is advertised as "Classic residence offers timeless and inspired family living."

Listing agent Marissa Hopkins thinks the home is definitely a film star, saying, “Very few homes have a leading role in a movie, in a sense becoming an additional character.”

Besides being a piece of movie history ... the home also boasts a four-room master suite, a carved marble fireplace mantle and the notorious "attic bedroom" -- where Kevin had to spend the night with his bed-wetting cousin.

The only downside ... bumbling criminals are known to frequent the area.

Chicago Dude

The house was used in the first movie however the home owner wouldn't let them in for Home Alone 2 so that was shot on a sound stage here in Chicago. Only the exterior was used for the second movie. How do I know???? I worked on the movie for months! :)

@USA#1~ The movie WAS done there. There was an sdditional set built in the back of the house, but the movie, for the most part, was done in the house. I LOVE that banister!

This house has BEEN on the market! They periodically announce it to generate interest. The movies do not increase the value of the house (maybe minimally). The neighborhood is fantastic! If you want to look at it you have to be pre-qualified for 2 Mil. Come and look! Minutes from beautiful downtown Chicago!

I love this house, but I want to clarify a few of the other comments.

The owners of the house are an elderly couple who have owned it for a little over 20 years, so the house has not had multiple owners as someone suggested. Same owner then, same owner now. Not sure if it has been on the market several times, but if so, they were unsuccessful. I believe this is the first time it's been on the market, which is why it's being so heavily marketed. The owners are now empty-nesters and would like to move.

The house in The Unborn is an entirely different house, albeit beautiful. It's much larger too. The Home Alone house is only about 4,300 square feet. The exteriors are very different as well.

The interior of the house and the movie house are the same. The filmmakers used different furniture and faux wall-paper however. The piano used in the movie is still in the home and was the home owners'. The layout is almost identical, but the back of the house in the movie (scene where Joe Pesci gets shot through the doggy door) is actually a screened in porch that the filmmakers surrounded with brick and dug a hole next to so it would look like a basement. Also, I think the owners may have updated the house because in the movie there is a staircase in the breakfast room/kitchen which is currently not in the home, although there is a staircase there, it goes down into the basement, not upstairs.

Hope that helps! It's a beautiful home. Check it out here:

Liked it better in the movie. The inside now looks like a hospital.
