Ashton Kutcher

Negotiating to Replace

Charlie on 'Men'

5/13/2011 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

UPDATE: Deadline Hollywood says the deal is done -- Ashton is the new Charlie Sheen.

Chuck Lorre is in active negotiations with Ashton Kutcher to replace Charlie Sheen on "Two and a Half Men" ... sources familiar with the negotiations tell TMZ.

0512_ashton_kutcher_tahm_ex
We're told a deal has not been signed, but Lorre believes Kutcher is the guy who can keep "Men" alive and well.

But Lorre has two other prospects, sources say, if the Kutcher deal falls through. Our sources would not identify the other two actors.

We're told Lorre wanted Hugh Grant to replace Charlie, but those negotiations hit a brick wall.

Our sources say a decision on Charlie's replacement will be made by Wednesday.

Stay tuned...

Here's an idea that comes to mind. If it were me, I'd go with Grant. But I'd transform his image... RADICALLY.

If it worked with Charlie as a mild mannered party animal who makes his living writing jingles, I'd up the ante and go full out burned out, fresh out of rehab for the 7th time but honestly trying to change his ways (but with only moderate success at times) head banging, world famous, hard rocking party beast. Something like a modern day version Of Ozzy meets David Lee Roth (there's an idea.)

Question is if Grant could pull it off? He needs a radical change to revive his career anyway and a 180 departure from the persona he created in the past is likely necessary for him. Plays well for Alan as well in that if he had trouble dealing with Charlie, what would a rocker with all the trappings of the past popping up constantly be like? Also a good arch for Jake in that he could idolize the new roomie in hopes of advancing his guitar playing skills to become the next big time rocker himself. Would drive Alan insane.

As for Charlie, I'd start the first episode as a "where the hell is Charlie" one. I'd just have it come out that he snapped and went on a world wide bender and no one really knows where he is at the moment. With rumors coming in ever so often about some crazed event somewhere in the world that he has been part of. Which also keeps the door open just in case.

I'd transition the new character as having crossed paths with Charlie somewhere like Bangkok and after a nine day nonstop bender in a hotel somewhere with scads of groupies, a water buffalo and an x-rated karaoke contest, Charlie decides to help out his new found wing man by giving him power of attorney over his estate and affairs back in Malibu while they both continue their quests to find themselves - Charlie parting for parts unknown and the as yet named rocker deciding to head to Malibu to try to pull himself together one more time, with the help of Charlie's brother Alan who he has been told is a real 'together' guy.

That's the route I'd take anyway. If the show is to have a chance, they have to up the ante. Trying to stay on par with the Charlie version and it will be very flat I think.

Here's my pitch... Charlie leaves a note... he writes that he has taken off for India to live in an ashram to find inner peace (spelled piece) and he has left all decision making regarding his home to his mother. Ashton Kutcher appears as the "secret brother" that mom never told either brother about... what can she do but let him live in the Malibu house in Charlie's absence. Give Ashton a season and let's see what develops.

As much as I would love to see John Stamos in this role I don't think the viewing public could get past Uncle Jesse. Rob Lowe? Um no, not really. Hugh Grant???? Are they kidding, whatever "COMEDY" that man did in movies was UNFUNNY. He couldn't act his way out of a paperbag.

What I would love to see is an estranged uncle, (NO< NOT THE REAL LIFE CHARLIE) I'd like to see the estranged brother of Evelyn's husband, the father of the boys show up and see some sexual inneundo go on for about three seasons between mom and the uncle. Somewhere in there will be revealed he's "ACTUALLY" the father of both sons, or the father or Alan but not Charlie.

Message to Chucky Sleeze - you won't be coming back, period.

Many are thinking the show will sink with Ashton, or with any replacement for that matter. But the bottom line is whether the show sinks or swims it won't matter to the producers at all because the show has had a good run to date. This is a business and as long as the show is profitable it will go on. When the money is no longer there they will shut this project down and move on to the next one.

The real losers in this deal are the production staff who have literally been given the shaft by Sleezy. Everyone had a sweet deal until the Great Wizard of Sleeze opened his mouth and screwed it all up with his temper tizzies.

Sleezy may have a little more riding on his $100M lawsuit than he thinks. If he loses the production crew just might consider looking to him to recover their losses. It will be an interesting show for sure.......

January Jonez, what's with your asinine prejudice against Jews? This story is about whether TMZ viewers like the idea of bringing Ashton Kutcher into the Two And A Half Men show or not, not about how much you hate Jews. We're not interested in all the people you hate in the world and your prejudiced stereotypes. Why don't you go to some racist website and knock yourself out, you moron?!!!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I'm part Jewish..So your level of assumption is astounding!
Just a CS fan who wishes he could have come back.
And considering the fact that you come off as intellectually superior, your one dimensional analysis is disappointing at best.

Whoever wrote that no show lasts a season after replacing a major character and Kutcher should know since after Topher Grace left That 70's Show and replaced him with a lesser known actor the show was quickly canceled. Kutcher too was gone after that season, so needless to say this is probably the likelihood of TAHM. Regardless of whoever they place in this show it has to be at least a MORAL victory for CBS to say to Sheen - BUCK OFF - you are replaceable! They've made that quite clear since they let him go a couple months ago! Finally some progress in this situation regarding TAHM.
