Springfield to Cop:

'I Will F**king Kill You'

5/16/2011 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Rick Springfield threatened to kill a deputy sheriff and the deputy's family the night he was arrested for drunk driving ... yet there is no mention of the incident in the arrest report -- law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Springfield was arrested in Malibu on May 1 and blew a .10 -- above the legal limit.

Sources tell us ... Springfield was extremely angry after the deputy said his $200,000, 1963 Corvette Stingray would be towed away. Law enforcement sources tell us, Springfield yelled to the deputy, "If you tow my car I will f**king kill you and your family."

Law enforcement sources tell us ... back at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, the captain who runs the station asked the deputy, "Did you really feel threatened?" Our sources say some of the deputies at the station felt it was a loaded question, trying to minimize Springfield's statement.

In the end, our sources say there was no mention of the threat in the arrest report -- the report merely says Springfield was "belligerent."

You may recall, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station is the place where the Mel Gibson 2006 DUI arrest report was rewritten to exclude Mel's anti-Semitic rant.

As for Springfield, his rep gave TMZ this statement: "Someone has leaked information illegally. It's a sad reflection on society today that people in law enforcement who we look up to, pander to the celebrity gossip channels."

LA County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Steve Whitmore tells TMZ, "It is rare when a drunk doesn't say something outlandish to police when they're arrested. I have no idea what went down with this one, I wasn't there, but drunks are notorious for saying stupid, outlandish things to law enforcement all the time. Law enforcement's job is to get them off the streets, because they're drunk."

The D.A. currently has the file and is deciding whether to charge Springfield with DUI.

"Celebrities" are getting waaaaaaay too out of hand. They are *entertainers*, which actually is at the bottom of the barrel.
There are only an elite few with talent and class anymore. The rest are pathetic.

Uh, no...you slimy dirtbag lawyer. What IS a sad reflection on society, is when some hasbeen drunk threatens a police officer (and his family) with death over a car...sadder still is when the same slimy dirtbag lawyer, tries to spin the report rather than announcing (heartfelt or not) that Springfield is sorry for his remarks and takes full responsibility for his actions.

Let's see.......your getting arrested for DUI, so you're not exactly gona feel all lovey dovey, toward the arresting officer, then they go and start of hooked you your 100,000 plus car and tow it away , I think I would be a little pissed off myself......as for not putting that in the report, really its not like they don't hear the same thing every time they do that to a arrestee, probably worse, I know three deputy sheriffs in my family who tell me some really good storys of what they are called at times of arrest and none are flattering to the cop...
Grow up TMZ you are stirring the pot again..your favorite passtime lately...TMZ needs to change it name to Tattletale Zone cause they are tattling all the time.

Would that TMZ would cover Lindsay's carjacking with this kind of intensity. But noooooooooo, Lindsay's a golden child to TMZ who does no wrong even with the 2 duis and carjacking and assault against the clinic workers etc etc. Man you guys are STANK.

A DUI arrest is public record. Nothing was leaked "illegally."

SERIOUSLY !!!!!

The Sheriff's Dept. did the right thing... I mean, SERIOUSY !!!!! ... do you REALLY think Rick Springfield would have killed the Deputy and his family ... drunk OR sober??? Nice to see a law enforcement officer use some common sense and NOT use the arrest for their 15 minutes of fame or to promote the career of aging 1980s soap opera/rock star(an using the terms 'soap opera/rock star' is really stretching the truth!)

Once again...always protecting the ones in trouble. If he said it then he should have to deal with the consequences. You can't just say those things to law enforcement. Any non celeb would be punished to the max for that! But he is being protected instead and his lawyer is using diversion. Boo hoo...it got leaked!

Springfield's rep statement says something about the sad state of law enforcement..."pandering to celebrity gossiup channels".... how about just PANDERING TO CELEBRITIES... ya think the "I'll F&%&* kill you and your family" statement was left out of the police report because Springfield was a celebrity? Yet THAT's ok huh? Springfield is a washed-up second rate quasi rock star (he wasn't even that popular when he was popular), who thinks he's entitled. Well... he isn't.

SERIOUSLY !!!!!

I might also add that Rick S. wasn't too concerned about his precious Corvette while driving over the legal limit (i.e. DRUNK!) California must not be a "3 strikes & you're out" state. In Missouri 3 arrests for drunk diving and you're looking at serious jail time.

For anyone saying it isn't a big deal; I challenge you to get-up find a police officer and say what he and Gibson said and let us know how it goes?

Cops loved to be called: oven-dodgers, sugar-tits!
Fastest way to a cops heart: Tell him you'll kill him and his family!

Let us know how it goes! After you get out of jail!

It was an idle threat by a drunk guy whose classic Corvette was about to be towed, and they recognized it as that, and used their discretion as Law Enforcement Officers and did they're job.

Get the f&ck over it. This sh*t happens all of the time. I respect officers who use common sense and discretion instead of being self aggrandizing ZERO TOLERANCE *******s, like a lot of you apparently are...
