Springfield to Cop:

'I Will F**king Kill You'

5/16/2011 6:30 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Rick Springfield threatened to kill a deputy sheriff and the deputy's family the night he was arrested for drunk driving ... yet there is no mention of the incident in the arrest report -- law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

0513-rick-springfield-mug-ex2

Springfield was arrested in Malibu on May 1 and blew a .10 -- above the legal limit.

Sources tell us ... Springfield was extremely angry after the deputy said his $200,000, 1963 Corvette Stingray would be towed away. Law enforcement sources tell us, Springfield yelled to the deputy, "If you tow my car I will f**king kill you and your family."

Law enforcement sources tell us ... back at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station, the captain who runs the station asked the deputy, "Did you really feel threatened?" Our sources say some of the deputies at the station felt it was a loaded question, trying to minimize Springfield's statement.

In the end, our sources say there was no mention of the threat in the arrest report -- the report merely says Springfield was "belligerent."

You may recall, the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station is the place where the Mel Gibson 2006 DUI arrest report was rewritten to exclude Mel's anti-Semitic rant.

As for Springfield, his rep gave TMZ this statement: "Someone has leaked information illegally. It's a sad reflection on society today that people in law enforcement who we look up to, pander to the celebrity gossip channels."

LA County Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Steve Whitmore tells TMZ, "It is rare when a drunk doesn't say something outlandish to police when they're arrested. I have no idea what went down with this one, I wasn't there, but drunks are notorious for saying stupid, outlandish things to law enforcement all the time. Law enforcement's job is to get them off the streets, because they're drunk."

The D.A. currently has the file and is deciding whether to charge Springfield with DUI.

no mention of the incident in the arrest report -- law enforcement sources tell TMZ. [why would the California star struck sheriff department tell TMZ!!! how effed-up they are?

Imagine if it was Joe Public, they would have Rodney King him and claimed he "resisted arrest"

It's a sad reflection on society when some rich bytch like Ricky Springfield can threaten LE and walk. Nothing like rewarding and encouraging irresponsible behavior. Nothing like a PR flack who plays the victim card for his worthless client who's old enough to know better. If I was Springfield I'd off myself out of shame.

FURTHERMORE... notice how the DA still is holding on to the file, and has DECIDED IF he'll file charges... more like... holding out to cut a deal for himself....

DISGUSTING!!!! Where is 60 Minutes when you want them?

NO, what's "SAD" dumb ass is that you were out tooling around with a BAC level over .10, JTFU and take your medicine...don't blame the cops for your stupidity.

Could someone call Mel Gibson and get his take on all of this? He seems to be the pro of racial slurs and verbal attacks on police Officers while Drunk Driving :)

A little "insight" into the mind of a has been celeb who gets caught committing crimes like all of us "little people" do might be enlightening.

How do we even know this is true? If it's not in the report, then it didn't happen....I mean legally speaking, there is no proof, so why even print this? just sayin'.....

Rick Springfield chose to drive drunk, and put innocent people's lives at risk. To then threaten a police officer's family with death because he is concerned about his classic car speks for itself. Is this someone to look up to? This is simply an alcoholic who should not be enabled. Next time, he may actually kill someone.

If this quote is true, the cop is probably still laughing his a** off. Mel Gibson is truly scary, but Rick Springfield - c'mon.

It is sad that people with talent always seem to be prone to alcohol and drug addiction. I was a fan of Rick's since the early 70's when I first heard his Beginnings album. I am no longer a fan, having heard too many unflattering things about him and how he treats others. I have no respect for people like that. But I do hope he gets help for his addictions.

L.A. cops taking it easy on celebrities? That's a headline from every year since, oh, about 1926.

Uh -- isn't threatening an officer a punishable offense? So this d-bag should have been charged with threatening an officer. As to this sorry singer's spokesman, I would retort: "It's a sad reflection on society today that a celebrity can commit a punishable offense and get a pass because of his celebrity status..."

Jesus cops get things like this said to them all the time by drunks. If cops charged everybody who said nasty or threatening things to them the courts would be too full to consider real cases. If the cop didn't feel threatened then that's the end of it. Glad the cip isn't being a whiney little bitch just cause there's a celebrity involved.

Reality check dumbass. Police reports are not the final word in what really happens during an arrest. Their is both a culture of embellishment (or outright lies) in writing police reports to make their case a slam dunk, and alternately they also leave things out when they don't want to be a total a-hole and ruin your life over every little thing they possible can.

The one time i got a DUI the police report was a joke. The cop embellished it greatly, outright lied about a few things, and conveniently didn't record the stop on his dash cam, claiming it was "out of service" in the report, even though it was on and the red light was illuminated the whole time. I was nothing but polite and cooperative with him and he turned out to be a lieing punk.

Turns out he wasn't only an officer but a children ministers too, graduated from a bible college, was interesting in running for local politics etc. You know a real stand up Christian guy and Law Enforcement Officer. A pillar of the community.

I swear the worst people always seem to be the ones everybody thinks are "Good upstanding citizens" until they finally get caught being the douche they really are.

Oh did i mention he was recently given an award at some yearly LEO gathering? It was for being one of the top DUI cops in arrest numbers.

I can't imagine how that could be... honest hard work i'm sure? Yeah that's what it was. /sarcasm

Let me tell you if someone kills him i won't be shedding any tears for him even though i'll fell sorry for his family. But f&ck him he was never a very good cop anyway and if that's what it takes to get him off the street and stop victimizing citizens, whatever. Good riddance to the self righteous lying bastard.

Judge or not to Judge

Funny reading the comments here on this. You judge one by reading garbage on TMZ. I agree with a commenter. "Grow up TMZ you are stirring the pot again, your favorite passtime lately. TMZ needs to change it name to Tattletale Zone cause they are tattling all the time"

Judging one by just reading about them. Some places, like TMZ could just be gossip. Stirring up what is untrue. Were you there when Rick was arrested?? Were you by the cop's side?

Only they know what went down.

Judging others makes you look like you want to be judged.

Hey, I don't blame him. I'd be pissed too. Arrest me, but don't tow away a man's 1963 Corvette Stingray. That's just mean.
Let him call to have someone drive it. Just say'in.
