Maria definitely knew. She didn't leave earlier because of the dynasty of her family and religious beliefs. Every woman knows when her husband is cheating. Considering the child's purported likeness to Schwarzenegger, one might think Maria had an inkling, but remember - Arnold's very charming and Maria could have been in denial. As a woman, however, I think the more likely scenario is that Maria, either in love with her husband or with the "power couple" life they had together, turned a blind eye. As for why Arnold's choice of dalliance - add ego, power, and drive to a healthy dose of "handy".

man, I already feel bad for maria, but it must really rub salt in the wound that arnold had a love child with this woman. sorry, she is not very attractive, inside or out.
