Maria Shriver Shops for L.A. Condos

5/21/2011 12:25 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Maria Shriver was quietly looking at pricey L.A. condos back in January ... months before the Arnold Schwarzenegger baby scandal broke ... TMZ has learned.

What's especially interesting about this ... it looks like Arnold told Maria about Mildred Patty Baena immediately after he left the governor's office on January 3.

Sources say Maria and her broker looked at a condo at The Carlyle on Wilshire, a pricey condo building near UCLA.  Among the residents -- Bruce Willis, Sofia Vergara, Paul Anka, Donna Summer and Matt Kemp.

Our sources say Maria didn't like the units.  We're told she looked at several penthouse units, which are priced between $10 - $14 million (they rent out for around $30,000 a month).  She also looked at a few 3-bedroom condos, which were listed between $4 - $7 million (they rent out at around $17,000 a month).

We're told Maria felt the building was too exposed to the paparazzi.

Maria is still on the hunt for a place.

What idiots some people are!!
Why would she want to keep the Brentwood houue, with all the memories of her husband and the maid carrying on an affair there?
Even her own bed was used by Arnold and his maid!!
Don't worry about Maria, she has money from her grandparents trust left to her and her mother and father. Plus all the years on television and books she has written.
Start fresh and rebuild your life!!

Don't agree. What I see is that Maria already knew, and WAITED until the Governorship ended in January.
Her leaving, the story etc. was all very carefully planned out. We already knew she had moved from the Brentwood home several months ago, and then all this was announced in May.

Notice words like, "it looks like", or "sources say". glean the wheat from the chaff.

Sick of reading all of you so called self righteous people's comments, you should get off your high horses and check your own closets. I am sure some skeletons may fall out, one of them might even be Maria since she looks like skeletor, no wonder Arnold messed around. If you all had an opportunity to waddle with the terminator you would be naked already. Stop judging and I am sick of reading and hearing about this story already, next.

Under the surface of the story is a family that is in pain. We can call Arnold all the names in the world but the reality of it all is that there is a family in pain. We should all now change the channel and leave them in peace.

The LA Times claims to have broken the Arnold story so I guess I'll have to read that paper more often.

HOW CAN SOMEONE BLAME THE MAID? Because the bitch could have said no, that's why, she was grinning up in Marias face, holding her children and stabbing her in the back. She is the worst type of female, Arnold used his position and his charisma to trick his wife and that traitor bitch went right along with it.

And this is exactly what the rich do. They put out their carefully spun story, launch a smear campaign against the Maid to deflect the attention elsewhere, and then ask for privacy so that they can heal.
You may feel sorry for the family, but I don't. Maria and Arnold live by a different set of values and morals than the rest of us do. In their elitist minds, they are suppose to be able to get away with dirty things, and not be judged for them. They are trying to make themselves, especially Maria out to be victim, and poor Arnold was pursued by the maid, and we are suppose to say, Ok, it was the nasty Maids fault, and let the family get their lives back together? What about the Maid's life? What about her family, children and the son in question? It's OK to destroy them, but let's let the Schwarzenegger family alone, leave them in peace as you put it.

Don't know about anyone else, but people (especially wealthy or well-known ones) do not enter into marriage lightly figuring they can easily divorce. Also, aren't both of them catholics?

So, even with all the problems, I can't see either person eager to end a marriage, no matter how hurtful or embarrassing. Getting on a high horse does not solve anything.

That said, my concern right now is society -- having a baby for profit or as an insurance policy for future gain. If some woman manages to have an extramarital child by a wealthy person, should we just accept the blackmail aspects and tell the father to pay up? Read somewhere that over 60% of spouses cheat and I'm sure that for wealthy people that figure is even higher with more opportunity. Infidelity does not always break up a marriage if forgiveness and redefining a relationship is possible.

Really upset about the extramarital children being conceived and used by the mother.

I call B.S............she is just another persuasive, lying, trashy Kennedy and he is the same but Republican. She knew, she knew what she married, don't let her fool you. Feel sorry for her, hell no! You play with fire, surely you will get burnt.

______________

I think it was totally Arnold's fault, but that said, the maid could easily have demanded another high-paying job and quiet support -- Arnold is certainly wealthy enough.

However, the maid held on to that job in the wife's household deliberately and maliciously -- getting all those perks as a trusted employee of the family.

That is why she totally creeps everyone out. Kept her insider job to stalk and influence gifts for her family and probably eroding the legal marriage as well.

Brigitte Nielsen is probably laughing her ass off. Arnold was dating her back in the 80's and Maria made Arnold choose between her and Brigitte.

Are you insinuating that this Ms. Baena, the Maid, deliberately got pregnant 14 years ago, after 6 years of employment in the Schwarzenegger house? And are you insinuating that the Maid, exploited Arnold during that 20 year employment as maid and housekeeper? Are you insinuating that the Maid blackmailed Arnold?
The last I heard, Ms. Baena kept the parentage of her child secrete, and never told anyone but Arnold and perhaps her now ex-husband. Her family certainly didn't know. The child didn't know, and I hardly call an ending salary of $65,000 a year for Housekeeper/Maid/Assistant black mail or expolitation. I'd call it a salary. High end pay for Baena's position in the Schwarzenegger household is about $20 per hour, or anywhere from $1000-$1250 salary a week depending on longevity, duties and position. She was with them 20years, so $65K a year is normal pay for her position.

So, where was the exploitation, the blackmail? Even after a paternity test(which no one will say what year it was taken, just that Arnold knew when the child was a toddler) Where was the child support?

It is insinuations and rush to judgment that ruin peoples lives. You've pretty much decided she was blackmailing him, and exploited poor Arnold by getting pregnant on purpose to black mail him.

Researched Housekeeper/Maid/Assistant Salaries. They range anywhere from $40k(starting salary) to $90k a year. So the $65 k a year Baena was receiving at the end of her 20 years of service to the Schwarzenegger household is a average salary. Hardly exploited blackmail money.

I still want to know what her legal status was over 20 years ago when the Schwarzenegger's hired her as their initial maid.
