GLAAD: Homophobia Big Problem in NBA

The ratio of that appalls me to no end. That word is awful it is just as bad a N*ger or Sp*k or even K*ke. As a Jewish man Harvey Levin should be ashamed that he even had the gall to ask that question. What if every time he went to go play ball with his boys and that every time he made a bad move they shouted K*ke K*ke K*ke. Yeah I don't think he would like that to much. It is the same thing. It has the same damaging effect. It is homophobic to a T!

Though i do not feel anyone who plays a game for a living should be considered a role model there are many young people who do (But thank god for sports, i just think people who risk their lives are role models). Though i am not for or against homosexuality i do not believe this should be tolerated. The fact is hate is hate and spreading it and making it acceptable simply makes it more likely to continue. What some may think is not a big deal actually is. The fact is that this type of ignorance leads to acceptance and that leads to hate and that leads to violence. And it is a proven fact that the gay community is a constant target of violence. And why? because they live their life differently. Though i have no attraction to the same sex i feel that is my right because it is my personal business. And exactly why would it not be ok for someone who does to have that same consideration? The sad truth is when you use gay slurs you may think you are insulting them but really it just speaks volumes about your character. Cast the first stone and such.

Words gain different meanings as time goes on. That word's original definition is 'a pile of sticks', it mean cigarette in the UK and was apparently originally a slur for witches burned. So yes, it is a gay slur but it's also a lot of other things. People use it all the time for non-gay hating reasons. I'm sure in 50 years it'll mean something else.

It's a sportsmanship issue. They are professionals and are expected to act that way by the NBA. It's part of the job.

Which is more offensive - Calling someone a *** or telling them that they like to fellate other men? One would non-specific to homosexuality (in common usage) but considered offensive, while the other would be explicit and specific, but technically inoffensive. I'd laugh off being called a ***, but if someone said I like men's ****s in my mouth I'd likely be pretty angry.

There are lots of slang terms that are no longer associated with their origins. Mother****er? Hells yeah I'd do an older chick but that's rarely what's being implied.
