Cheryl Cole's Accent

Too Thick for 'X-Factor'

5/25/2011 4:20 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Cheryl Cole was dropped from the judging panel on "X-Factor" largely because producers were  concerned her English accent would be too difficult for an American audience to understand ... sources close to the production tell TMZ. .

There were other issues too -- we're told Cheryl and fellow judge Paula Abdul had a "lack of chemistry" ... and Cheryl was more expendable.

Producers now want Cheryl to return to the UK version of the show -- but according to sources, Cheryl's royally pissed over how this situation was handled ... and may sever ties with "X-Factor" entirely.

Steve Jones will now be the only host on the show -- which debuts in September -- since Nicole Scherzinger will be filling Cheryl's seat on the judging panel.

Calls to Simon Cowell still haven't been returned.

This is absurd they knew she had a strong accent to begin with this is just producers jumping the gun. I can understand her and luv her insights and praise she gives the contestants. Just because she is not known very well here in the U.S. doesn't mean every American can't get a chance to know her. There are worse accents her that I have heard!

Translation: It finally dawned on Simon Cowell that there's no way his force of personality would be able to make Cheryl Cole into a big enough US star to pull her weight on a show he has so much riding on.

Let's get real, here. It's not like he was suddenly surprised by her accent. He played this woman like a yoyo for months. I'm no fan of hers, whoever she is, but that's total douchebag behavior.

I was a huge fan of the X Factor in the UK and was so excited to see it expanded to the US where I live and the fact Cheryl Cole was going to be a judge was the best! I never had trouble understanding her I love her accent and now I don't think I'll even watch the show! Bad call Simon!

All the British papers have talked about for months was how she was only coming to do the show to expand her celebrity-ness(?) in America. She was a nobody here.

The BBC website ran a story months ago questioning if her accent would be understandable to Americans. Looks like they were on to something.

If Americans find it hard understanding Cheryl's accent, then they'll never understand the Kilmarnock accent, second part of the series The Scheme features families from a scheme in Scotland, cringe worthy tv....http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00sqv4h/The_Scheme_Episode_4/
Cheryl's geordie accent is very posh compared to this UK accent x

Simon and the producers are ridiculous. I'm American and i actually do understand Cheryl more than i did when Simon made he's first appearance on American idol. Guess i'd have to stick to the VOICE, cos i really don't like Simon, think Paula is a cookie doo, don't know who Alex Reid is, and Nicole does not qualify for tht spot.

I was at the auditions in Los Angeles, and you could perfectly understand Cole! She was an awesome judge, she knew how to give good critiques and when to give bad ones. It's sad, she was on her way to becoming a HUGE star here in the US.
