Alleged Baby Killer Casey Anthony -- The $68,000 Bill

5/26/2011 10:12 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Accused child murderer Casey Anthony is in more hot water with the feds -- the I.R.S. believes she failed to pay $68k in taxes back in 2008 ... the same year she allegedly killed her 2-year-old daughter.

TMZ obtained a tax lien filed against Anthony in Florida last week -- and according to the document, Casey never forked over $68,520 in federal taxes in 2008.

Casey was charged with first-degree murder the same year -- and is currently on trial in Orlando, FL ... facing the death penalty if convicted.

Calls to Casey's attorney were not immediately returned.

If they don't have her confused with her parents then it has to be from items and or rights Casey sold, such as pictures and so on to pay her lawyer, I believe her lawyer also made some deals on her behalf.

Critics hammer ABC News for $200,000 fee to Anthonys
March 26, 2010|By Hal Boedeker, Orlando Sentinel Television Critic

Bad reviews just keep coming for ABC News.

Critics say the Walt Disney-owned news organization was wrong to pay $200,000 to Casey Anthony and her family for photos and video of toddler Caylee Anthony.

Anthony attorney Jose Baez acknowledged in Orange Circuit Court last week that the network in August 2008 paid his client a licensing fee for exclusive images.

In October 2008, two months after the deal, Anthony was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.

"It doesn't make them look very family-friendly, does it?" said Andrew Tyndall, who analyzes ABC, CBS and NBC evening news at his Tyndall Report Web site. "It's not just ABC News. It's the entire corporation."

Tyndall was alluding to the fact ABC News is a subsidiary of Disney.

The Society of Professional Journalists' Ethics Committee also took the network to task. In a statement this week, committee chairman Andy Schotz said paying money to sources while reporting on them "breaches basic journalism ethics."

"ABC's failure to disclose this business relationship as part of its coverage the last two years made the breach worse," he said.

ABC News was not the only news organization to pay the Anthonys. CBS News paid George and Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony's parents, $20,000 to license material. The parents appeared on "48 Hours Mystery" and "The Early Show" last fall.

ABC News' payment "raised eyebrows because the amount of money is high," said Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research organization that studies the business. "If the disclosure is embarrassing, then the cost of doing it was much higher than the money, and it wasn't worth doing it."

Network insiders say the usual licensing fee is far less — much closer to what CBS paid — and that licensing has been a standard practice in TV news for years.

ABC News spokeswoman Cathie Levine told the ethics committee that the network should have disclosed the payment to viewers and that ABC had instituted a policy — because of its mistake on the Anthony story — to do so in future reporting.

Disclosure of the Anthony payment comes at a bad time for ABC News, Rosenstiel said.

"ABC has a lot going on right now — reducing your staff by 25 percent is a cataclysmic internal event," he said.

And here's another article. The news has INDEED reported this. Do your research before you say it didn't happen. Thank you.

Lawyer: ABC News Paid Casey Anthony $200,000

New evidence was released Thursday in the Casey Anthony murder case, including the amount of money she received from a television network, as well as conversations she had with other inmates.
Anthony's defense team told Judge Stan Strickland that she no longer has funds to pay for the trial. Her attorney testified ABC News paid Casey Anthony $200,000, but that those funds are now gone.
Strickland is deciding whether to approve the declaration of Anthony being indigent, which would make the state pay for her defense.
A transcript of conversations Anthony had with a fellow inmate was also released, stating that "an Orange County Corrections officer may have facilitated the communication once the friendship had begun."
Casey Anthony remains jailed on a charge of first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee, who was last seen in June of 2008. Caylee was not reported missing until a month later. The little girl's remains were found in a wooded area near the family's home on December 11, 2008. Investigators say the toddler's body was found with duct tape over her mouth.

tax back

What? That is almost impossible. She made no money, so what did she owe at her age? I think this report is WRONG

I hate this B*tch as much as the next guy,but how did she earn enough money to owe $68,000 to the IRS? Was she being paid for interviews after her daughter went missing? WE all know she wasn't working a regular job in 2008.

Something's wrong here....

Lisa, i read all the comments so I will not ask how she owes 68k on taxes because u have wrote it over and over how. thanks for the info. as for Casey....i do believe she killed her daughter because if my baby was stolen or had drowned accidently i wouldn't be partying it up. hopefully the jurors convict her but if they don't she has many other charges and she will be spending a lot of time in jail. she will get what she deserves either way.

I used to live in Orlando. Now I live in Clermont, about 30 miels west of Orlando. The local newspaper and TV channels have been bombarding us with this for the last three years. Now the trial is on every local TV channel all day long, and half of the articles in the newspaper are about the trial. The TV stations preempt the regular network programming for live coverage so there's very little if anything else on during the day. Casey Anthony is a pathological liar, and one of her attorneys married a guy who was and still is in prison for raping and murdering three women. "Birds of a feather".

She owes that much in taxes because she sold the rights to her daughter's pictures and home movies for over 200K. She could easily owe that much plus tons more in penalties that are racking up daily.
