Alleged Baby Killer Casey Anthony -- The $68,000 Bill

5/26/2011 10:12 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Accused child murderer Casey Anthony is in more hot water with the feds -- the I.R.S. believes she failed to pay $68k in taxes back in 2008 ... the same year she allegedly killed her 2-year-old daughter.

TMZ obtained a tax lien filed against Anthony in Florida last week -- and according to the document, Casey never forked over $68,520 in federal taxes in 2008.

Casey was charged with first-degree murder the same year -- and is currently on trial in Orlando, FL ... facing the death penalty if convicted.

Calls to Casey's attorney were not immediately returned.

Ricardo Morales sold ONE picture to The Globe and only made $4,000.00. He sold the pictures of Caylee in the "Big Trouble comes in small packages" tshirt. That t shirt was found with Caylee's remains.

Casey's attorney brokered a deal with ABC in 2008 and sold most of the pictures you see in the media of Caylee. Her attorney won't disclose the exact amount, but it is believed that ABC paid Casey $275,000 to $300,000. If you have been following this case like I have, you will know that this has all been discussed and made official in court.

Jesus Christ Lisa mellow the hell out! Watched the case LIVE in court today , and one of her boyfriends/ex's sold pictures of Caylee.. FACT. He testified to it in court. Did Casey sell some too? Maybe, I haven't heard that she did frankly.. and fail to see why a picture of a child would bring such a high price since Casey would not be permitted to profit since she is on trial for the crime of murder of the very child she supposedly profited off of with pictures.. AFTER she was arrested? Makes no sense.

NO NO NO!!!!

And the hilarious thing is that Baez was trying to make her ex look bad on the stand for making 4,000 when Casey and her family made hundreds of thousands.

I hope she gets convicted ASAP. Disgusted she is throwing her parents under the bus with her defense strategy, after all they've done for her.

I typed in caps so people would know where the money came from. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was shouting.

She did indeed sell all the baby pictures of Caylee that you see in the media. The media is funny that way. The story of Caylee Marie Anthony is a big big media story so they were willing to purchase Caylee's baby pics for top dollar. That's just they way the media is.

If Casey is found not guilty, you can bet she will make millions on doing interviews and such. It's sad, but a fact that so many people and organizations want to make money off this little girls death.

WHAT? Are you sure? Wasn't she still in college when all this went down? Where did she get a ~$300,000 income?!?!? I'm calling BS on this one. I doubt she had a Tiger Woods or a Elliot Spitzer throwing $6K to her every week. If she was making $300K, then why would she need to kill her child and go looking for a sugar daddy?!?!

I guess if I knew I was going away for life, I probably wouldn't pay my taxes either!

Oh, ok she sold pictures of Caylee to ABC. ABC executives are idiots! Well, at least, she's not going to be living like a rich celeb ever again.

What in the world was this trailer trash woman doing to rack up 68k in taxes? That would suggest she made 200k more or less that year!

Dr. Suess

Her ex Ricardo Morales testified today that he in fact sold some but I have never heard of her selling pics. And if she did she sold pics showing her and Caylee's interaction together not death photos or something. No one actually knows what really happened so its all speculation. And if she did do it and gets off it won't be the first time someone has...I mean OJ Simpson killed someone and went on a high speed chase and later on went and sold a book on how he did it. Yet they found him innocent. This world is nuts. We have to face it.

Critics hammer ABC News for $200,000 fee to Anthonys
March 26, 2010|By Hal Boedeker, Orlando Sentinel Television Critic

Bad reviews just keep coming for ABC News.

Critics say the Walt Disney-owned news organization was wrong to pay $200,000 to Casey Anthony and her family for photos and video of toddler Caylee Anthony.

Anthony attorney Jose Baez acknowledged in Orange Circuit Court last week that the network in August 2008 paid his client a licensing fee for exclusive images.

In October 2008, two months after the deal, Anthony was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony.

"It doesn't make them look very family-friendly, does it?" said Andrew Tyndall, who analyzes ABC, CBS and NBC evening news at his Tyndall Report Web site. "It's not just ABC News. It's the entire corporation."

Tyndall was alluding to the fact ABC News is a subsidiary of Disney.

The Society of Professional Journalists' Ethics Committee also took the network to task. In a statement this week, committee chairman Andy Schotz said paying money to sources while reporting on them "breaches basic journalism ethics."

"ABC's failure to disclose this business relationship as part of its coverage the last two years made the breach worse," he said.

ABC News was not the only news organization to pay the Anthonys. CBS News paid George and Cindy Anthony, Casey Anthony's parents, $20,000 to license material. The parents appeared on "48 Hours Mystery" and "The Early Show" last fall.

ABC News' payment "raised eyebrows because the amount of money is high," said Tom Rosenstiel, director of the Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research organization that studies the business. "If the disclosure is embarrassing, then the cost of doing it was much higher than the money, and it wasn't worth doing it."

Network insiders say the usual licensing fee is far less — much closer to what CBS paid — and that licensing has been a standard practice in TV news for years.

ABC News spokeswoman Cathie Levine told the ethics committee that the network should have disclosed the payment to viewers and that ABC had instituted a policy — because of its mistake on the Anthony story — to do so in future reporting.

Disclosure of the Anthony payment comes at a bad time for ABC News, Rosenstiel said.

"ABC has a lot going on right now — reducing your staff by 25 percent is a cataclysmic internal event," he said.
