Macho Man -- Gun Recovered At Crash Scene

5/26/2011 5:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Randy "Macho Man" Savage was in possession of a high-powered handgun when he crashed in Florida last week ... but TMZ has learned Savage had an active permit to carry the weapon.

TMZ spoke with Randy's brother, Lanny Poffo, who tells us the gun was properly registered and legit.

Lanny says Randy had recently gotten into the hobby of target shooting -- and was a pretty damn good shot.

Lanny says Randy and his wife were so passionate about the hobby -- he wasn't surprised about the discovery of the gun because the couple went shooting together all the time.

So a gun was found at the scene....it was registered and he went to the range on a regular basis....what's the story here? Did they find a condom in his wallet, too? TMZ, you seriously need some new writers...you snag on to one incident and post 30 articles about it. You are getting boring

If it was registered, why is this being brought up?

Seriously? I think I just saw Harvey putting on his leather jacket and making ready to jump the shark. What's that? It just happened? Figures.

Being as it's Florida i'm not even sure what they mean by it was "properly registered and legit"?

I wonder if that's what Randy's brother actually said, or if TMZ's "Staff Writer" is just injecting their own gun law ignorance into the story? (By assuming that if it was "legit" then it MUST have been "properly registered" with some "authorities".)

You know, like California. TMZ should stick to writing about what they know about, because they always make asses out of themselves when they don't know.

Wait! A gun? No way! Does every man woman and child in the U.S.A. pack a piece?

@Disgusted "Typical of what one would expect from a California based group. California, a state that does not believe in the right to bear arms. "

I agree. This isn't a "lefty" thing. This is an "ignorant/urban?California" thing. I want someone to ask who wrote this junk.

Also found in the car was a stick of gum, a screwdriver, and a usb thumb drive. Why is a legal gun newsworthy ? A gun is just a tool. An inanimate object. This is officially the dumbest TMZ story ever, seriously, someone nominate this ****.

mildly insane

Tmz is so anti gun it is silly
millions of people own guns and it is never a problem
the problem lies in people who want to use guns for illegal purposes if you removed all the guns most would use a knife remove the knives they would use sticks remove the sticks ,rocks ,rope ect.
i wish each employee of TMZ would go to a good gun range
and shoot a couple of different guns i bet most of them
would enjoy it whether or not they would admit it is a different question.

Even if he had a .50 cal hand cannon, this isn't newsworthy.

I think its sad and disgusting. The man hasn't even been dead a week. You are digging. STOP IT!!!! Randy Savage is a good man, he was one of the best wrestlers of all time, Its appalling the WWE wait a week, do a 5 min vignette on a man who made the industry what it is. He never was in trouble with the law, never had a problem, he was courteous and genuine in and out of the ring. The man had a heart attack and died in a car crash. Let his memory remain what it is. One of decency, and tragic end. 58 is still young, and he was taken way to soon. It is perfectly legal to carry a gun, he had a permit. Leave it alone. Let him rest in peace and stop digging up things. It makes me sick.

Uhm...so? I know things are 'different' out there in the TMZ but a lot of Americans carry guns in their cars out here in the real world. So you guys just stay where you are cuz we wouldn't want to frighten your delicate Hollywood sensibilities with our constitutional rights or anything.
