Dr. Drew -- Conaway Did NOT Die From an Overdose

5/27/2011 2:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Despite widespread reports, "Grease" star Jeff Conaway did NOT die from a drug overdose -- but rather his body gave out after long-term prescription drug abuse ... this according to Dr. Drew.

Drew -- who treated Conaway on "Celebrity Rehab" -- tells us there is no evidence showing Jeff died from an overdose ... saying, "This was aspiration with overwhelming pneumonia and sepsis."

Drew tells us Jeff's condition was inevitable because the actor had been a serious pill popper for years and the constant substance abuse wore down his body.

Drew explains, "Jeff is another pharmaceutical death from the overutilization of prescription drugs. Please continue to pray for friends and family. They appreciate your support.”

Jeff was doing nothing but suffering. At least he is at peace now.
Dr. Drew has been losing a lot of his celebrity patients. They are dropping like flies. They all needed to be in rehab much much longer and maybe they would be still alive today. So sad to be losing these poor souls.

Dr. Drew is always willing to selflessly step up when publicity is to be had. What a vulture - yuck.

If Dr. Drew is so good at what he does, then why are so many of his patients he's treated dying? 2 this year alone. He's a quack, and no one should ever seek him out for treatment.

Season 4 (8 guests)

"Sorry for Jeff and his family. To Dr. Drew: You seem very dangerous. Please go away. You may need a 12 step program to overcome your constant need for publicity but it could be you are in complete denial."

I couldn't agree more. Dr. Drew is a parasite living off exploiting people in desperate conditions in bad health conditions. Dr. drew violates basic ethical rules by disclosing and discussing sick and vulnerable people's health issues. He is a poster child for everything a bad "doctor" does. ". If you want dignity and good care by a doctor who cares about you , Dr. Drew is not the one to go to with because for him, publicity and exploiting and exposing you to the public at your worst time is what he cares about.

Dr. Drew--you have allowed your need for publicity to run your life. Why do you feel you have a right to comment on how he died? That should be up to his family to decide what is said.

Leave Dr. Drew alone, I think his heart is very much into helping these people out!

Dr. Drew isn't even board certified in psychiatry -- he's an Internal Medicine doctor! He "self-certified" himself as an addiction psychiatrist. He's nothing but a hack. He learned how to talk a good game, but he really has no idea what he's doing. He just wanted fame and the big $$ -- as if that wasn't apparent when he had the plastic surgery on his face (botox? filler?)

Drew -- you don't coddle addicts, no matter who they are. You sure didn't do Jeff Conaway any favors by putting him on your "purely for entertainment" rehab show.

Here we are again reading about another death from prescription drug abuse. Why aren't the government authorities smacking down harder on drug doctors? While I know this guy was a actor at one time, its really ashame that the only time a prescription drug abuser is put up for all to see it's a celebrity!
I hope none of us are ignorant enough to believe that the government wants to keep this epidemic as hush-hush as it can be because there is billions of dollars involved with these pharmaceutical companies and they share the wealth with our government watch dogs. Isn't the DEA suppose to be doing their jobs to prevent such tragedies like this one? Ordinary people are dying everyday in our country from prescription overdoses and what is it going to take for all of this to stop? Pharmaceutical companies that provide these drugs to consumers should look at the books. These companies need to be investigated because they are the front line of this epidemic. They are the one's showing up in doctor's offices everyday promoting their drugs, and giving unbelievable perks to those doctors that do prescribe these addictive drugs to people. Who then become drug addicts and aren't treated for the new problem, the drug addiction. So sad! We are truly a prescription drug addict nation. 10 years ago this would have been unheard of. But now doctors have jumped on the pharmaceutical band wagon and are prescribing dangerous drugs to people, rather than telling them go take a aspirin and call me in the morning. I know why that isn't how its done nowadays. There's no money to be made by telling patients to just take a tylenol. Something very suspecious about all these doctors, pharmaceutical companies and our government in not taking control of over prescribing these dangerous and addictive drugs.

I don't get why people on here are bashing and blaming Dr. Drew. I just don't get it. I've been clean and sober for 23 years, I've learned through my own personal experiences that I am responsible. That I cannot blame anyone for anything that I do that puts me in a dangerous place. I like Dr. Drew, and it sickens me to read all the comments putting him down. He's saved more lives than any of you know. But when his patients die thats the big news story, not the one's that helped saved.
Why not have Dr. Drew finally put it out there, all the patients his work has saved, rather than demeaning him now that Jerry Conaway has died. Jeff was the addict, Jeff did this to himself, Jeff I'm sure had all his enablers around him, it was Jeff that popped all of those pills. He was never forced into any of this.
While I do have sympathy for those he left behind, I can't place blame on anyone but Jeff himself. He didn't want to get clean and sober, Dr. Drew doesn't have the powers to help someone who doesn't want his help.
I find Dr. Drew to be a very compassionate person. Someone that actually does care, even when his patients don't care about themselves.
So stop the bashing and just move along. None of you obviously have any addiction problems, probably don't know anyone with an addiction problem, so you would never understand the process it takes to help someone achieve sobriety. I've never watched celebrity rehab., but I do watch his new show every night and I find his demeaner to be calm, understanding, and empathetic. He is knowledgeable about these diseases yes, but he himself doesn't suffer from the disease, so it's hard for anyone to understand this addiction other than those who have been addicted and finally came to the realization that life is better without all the drugs and drinking.
The only person that can help a drug addict, is the drug addict themselves, but once they reach out for help their will always be a hand there reaching out to help them.
Jeez..... hope none of you bashers ever need help for an addiction, or find a love one addicted.......maybe there won't be anyone there for them to reach out to for help !!
