Dr. Drew -- Conaway Did NOT Die From an Overdose

5/27/2011 2:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Despite widespread reports, "Grease" star Jeff Conaway did NOT die from a drug overdose -- but rather his body gave out after long-term prescription drug abuse ... this according to Dr. Drew.

Drew -- who treated Conaway on "Celebrity Rehab" -- tells us there is no evidence showing Jeff died from an overdose ... saying, "This was aspiration with overwhelming pneumonia and sepsis."

Drew tells us Jeff's condition was inevitable because the actor had been a serious pill popper for years and the constant substance abuse wore down his body.

Drew explains, "Jeff is another pharmaceutical death from the overutilization of prescription drugs. Please continue to pray for friends and family. They appreciate your support.”

The police need to investigate the former girlfriend, Vicki. Even when he was trying to get sobber...she was like a leech trying to keep hold of him and not letting him get tso he coud get the help he needed. His family was right getting a restraining order against her in the last days....too bad someone didn't step in do that sooner. He was too desperate to have anyone around him ... so he chose someone who only cared about him being her mealticket. She was creappy and evil and you could see it in the way she interacted with wasn't love ... it was the drugs.

Dr Drew treated Jeff on a TV show. Was the treatment what was best for Jeff or for TV ratings. You don't mix entertainment and trying to help addicts. He was pretty quick to appear on TV to give out medical details and cause of death (before autopsy !!). Addicts kill themselves but they go quicker if they are being used by girlfriends, doctors and family for personal gain.

I think Dr. Drew is a very credible and knowledgeable doctor. Just bc he is on tv doesn't mean that he has sold out or doesn't know what he is talking about. I can see where one might think that rehab shouldn't be televised, but I disagree. How else will people learn how tragic drug addiction is if it hasn't touched their lives personally? Shows like Celebrity Rehab and Intervention can help society understand what these people are going through and maybe decrease prejudice thoughts that these people 'did this to themselves'. Drug addiction is a disease, not a choice.

no he died from prescription drugs-prescribed to him by licensed Doctors and this is what happens to you if you let them get you on a prescription-why did the doctors keep shoveling out the pills to him-aren't these pills supposed to be the miracle drugs?? but if you take them they will poison your blood and give you congestive heart failure-just like half our elderly that die-wow maybe the AMA and the Pharmy Corps don't have our best health at heart -maybe they just want us to take the drugs until we need more drugs and die early with as much complications as possible as to insure the most profits by treating the symptoms they have given us-chalk another up to the Pharmy's-

RIP Jeff. I had the biggest crush on you when you were on Taxi. I am a person who suffers from chronic pain due to degenerative disc disease, and I am on prescription pain meds in order to control my severe pain. I do not abuse my pills. I take them as prescribed. Some people who suffer chronic pain really need prescription medications, and the idiots who abuse them for getting a high are ruining it for the ones who truly need them. I don't think anyone should judge another. But I am really tiring of Dr. Drew. I used to really like him, but he has changed in the last year or so. He is now more interested in getting on camera, it seems. And he actually does a special on Charlie Sheen, when he is not even his doctor and has never treated him. How is that even legal? I am not a fan of Charlie Sheen's but I would have sued Dr. Drew for that if I were him. I see Dr. Drew crashing and burning in the future, and he will probably end up sitting in a wheelchair drooling from drug abuse one of these days, when he realizes nobody wants to hear his crap anymore.

Conaway looked like he was straight out of a zombie movie the past twenty years.

There are many men who have lived noble lives and died for a noble cause. Today, Memorial Day, is to honor those men. The contrast between those men and a celebrity drug death could not be more stark. Conaway does not deserve anyone's love or sympathy and you can bet he knew that.

Why is this Dr. Drew's fault? Junkies are junkies. Its no one's fault that jeff conaway died except jeff conaway's. Rehab shouldn't be televised.

RIP Jeff. May you know the peace in death you never had in life. The thing that sucks about battling addiction is that sometimes addiction wins. Rehab, alas, doesn't always have a happy ending. "Celebrity Rehab" really needs to be re-examined. Exactly how many people from that show have actually kicked drugs and/or alcohol? It seems to me that the show is actually counterproductive to recovery - the presence of the cameras feeds into the narcissim that causes that person to be addicted in the first place. Some people can never beat addiction, that's the painful truth of it.

I seriously think Dr Drew is just another handler, or enabler of drugs, and mind control. The media is a propoganda machine only here to influence our thoughts. When these celebrities try to leave, or are no longer needed they are slowly eliminated, and it is made to look like it is their fault. Were was the family, and why were people giving him more drugs instead of helping him with self control. Jeff was a spiritual man who believed in God, and people wanted to destroy him. Those who fed his addiction will one day feel his pain. Repent for time draws near. I only send my prayers for Jeff that he may find the love he didn't recieve here. These people hate christians, and like the beast seek to destroy them.
