Stars Who've Served!

5/30/2011 4:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

For Memorial Day, we thought it would be fitting to honor the brave celebs who have served in the armed forces!

** TMZ's fearless leader Harvey Levin is out of town and did not select the stars featured in this gallery ... which is why we stuck him front and center! FYI -- Harv served in the Air National Guard.**

It's not appropriate to add Jimi Hendrix to this group (especially when you have people like Pat Tillman who died serving. Hendrix enlisted in the army as an alternative to jail and was a huge slacker who he slept while on duty, had little regard for regulations, required constant supervision, and showed no skill as a marksman. He did many things - but "served" his country is a stretch.

Are you really including former President Kennedy in the "celeb" category with Pee Wee Herman? Sheesh.

The earlier poster appears to be correct that Paul Reubens did not serve. From Wikipedia: his father an automobile salesperson who had flown for Britain's Royal Air Force and for the U.S. Army Air Forces in World War II, later becoming one of the founding pilots of the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 Israeli War of Independence.

Another missed opportunity, Memorial Day is about remembering those who died in combat for our country, maybe you should have asked for pictures of the fallen and kept this post for Veteran's Day when it is appropriate.

Amber you are absolutely correct. We should all take a moment today and acknowledge those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. For without them we might not be a nation.

you are correct
JFK was not a star... he was a president
one of many who served

from General George Washington to 5 Star General Dwight D Eisenhower

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidents_by_military_rank

it's only lately we mostly now see for example that Clinton - who took off for school in England to get away from serving
and Obama never signed up to serve
say what you will about Bush Jr, at least he joined the Air National Guard...

in my mind if you order young men to war-you should have been willing when you were their age to go yourself
your "love of country" should not just be convenient rhetoric but should be deep rooted in your being

we seem to ask too little of our politicians in that regard lately-where in the past- the military experience gave them insight and a lot of great characteristics that gave them an advantage in helping to grow and lead the country to make it great

they were men to look up to...
and they knew first hand the willingness to lay down their lives for their country if necessary

WOW... none of those guys should have gone under the knife/botox... anything is better than how they look today [ugh].What are people drinking, smoking or snorting to cause them to believe that they're looking hot with those hideous plastic surgery jobs

Frank Oz served in the Army (with my uncle). I am in total shock that TMZ's favorite astronaut Buzz Aldrin is missing from this list.

Everyone.... that was Veteran's Day, ya know.... when we celebrated all those people who have and who are serving in our armed forces. This is Memorial Day... as in Memorial... this holiday honors those who have given their lives in the service of our country.

This shows why little kids run that place. It's MEMORIAL DAY, not VETERAN'S DAY. Today is to honor those that were "killed in service of their country." Typical TMZ.

----

Yep. Today is the day we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation. TMZ dishonors them with this "Stars Who've Served" fluff piece.
