BET Won't Kill Rihanna 'Murder' Video

6/2/2011 1:37 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

BET is sticking to their guns after airing Rihanna's new "Man Down" music video -- which contains a brutal murder scene -- telling TMZ, they will continue to air it ... despite one really angry group of parents.

A rep for BET tells us the network refuses to pull the video -- explaining, BET "has a comprehensive set of standards and guidelines that are applied to all of our content.  The Rihanna 'Man Down' video complied with these guidelines and was approved for air."

As we previously reported, the Parents Television Council called on BET to pull the video yesterday -- claiming it depicted a "cold, calculated execution of murder" ... and wasn't suitable for television.

0602_rihanna_video_launch2But the people have decided -- the rep for BET tells us, the video has already made today's top 10 countdown.

Yeah BET holds its video to high standards. Such as gangbanging, whores, and drugs... really? Are we surprised they let this trash go forward? Obama voters at their best. HAHA.

WTF? The first 30 seconds of the video shows a typical Tuesday night at the 19th Street BART station in Oakland.

I don't understand why artists these days have to sing about murder and sex constantly. It's so annoying. I mean, Rhianna's fans are probably mostly pre-teens and teenagers. That subject matter is so inappropriate for young people. Rhianna should feel ashamed about making videos that include violent murder scenes and exposing innocent young minds to that kind of crap.

Wow. I'm starting to sound like my mom.

I love Rhi-Rhi but this is possibly the worst song of the year.

It is not the video that's the problem. Rihanna is very immature and isn't willing to admit she's a bad role model. It make be easy to act like the things that she does don't affect anyone because she's an adult and doesn't have children but that's not true. No one is saying that rape is ok, but neither is murder. And more importantly it's not ok to let your boyfriend beat you or to simulate sex acts in almost all of your videos. But that's Rihanna, the things we do today have lasting affects on our children tomorrow and we are creating a world where young people think it's ok to beat the people they date, and dress in very revealing clothing. And she is a part of the reason why that has become commonplace.

Time to Google
Dixie Chicks - Goodbye Earl
They poisoned Dennis Franz, wrapped his body in a tarp and threw him down a hill, smiling and singing the whole time.
Pink - Please don't leave me
She gets all Annie Wilkes on her boyfriend because he wants out of the relationship.
Hmmmm, Rihanna's video is soft compared to those two.

This is what musicians do. My God if you people were around in the 50's Elvis would've never have made it big.

I am appalled that she would make a video with this topic and that the record label would green light it. Not only is shooting someone a bad idea, doing it in a public place where some innocent bystander could have been hurt or killed is irresponsible. Also, showing that violence is a way to solve your problems is JUST the lesson kids today need to learn from someone they look up to.
