Lloyd's of London: MJ Lied, So We Won't Pay

6/6/2011 3:19 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lloyd's of London has gone to court ... asking a judge to let the company off the financial hook, claiming it doesn't owe the Michael Jackson Estate $17.5 million on grounds MJ was a fraud.

The company issued the muilti-million dollar policy to cover the doomed "This Is It" tour for losses.

But Lloyd's claims it doesn't have to honor the policy for 2 primary reasons:

1.   Michael Jackson and AEG allegedly lied about Michael's medical history -- specifically, MJ said he had not seen a doctor other than a cosmetic MD since June, 2005.

2.  Michael did not disclose he was taking prescription drugs prior to and at the time of his death -- including Propofol.

Lloyd's is asking the court for a declaration that the policy is null and void as a result of the alleged fraud.

Howard Weitzman, the lawyer for the Estate, tells TMZ, "This legal action is nothing more than an insurance company trying to avoid paying a legitimate claim by the insured."

The doctor should know that Propofol (or whatever) is not supposed to be administered in a home and without an oxygen saturation level monitor and all the other life saving stuff in case you go into a coma and die, but is it Michael Jackson’s responsibility to know that?

You made an excellent point. The media and the MJ haters have been saying that Michael Jackson was responsible for his own death and that Dr. Murray should not be prosecuted for manslaughter. People seem to forget that Michael Jackson was not a doctor and he was not very smart when it came to medications. Dr. Murray was supposed to protect his client's health but instead he killed him with an overdose of propofol. And that is why he needs to go to jail.

Lloyd's-a-Leaping - Pt. 3......
-GayforIDIOT, what are you yapping about, now? Who cares that Michael blasted music at Neverland, it was HIS home after all.....
And noone said the FBI planted evidence against him, SNEDDON and the SBPD were the ones accused of doing that. The FBI tracked Michael for over 10 yrs at Sneddon's request then advised there was NOTHING to incriminate him. The FBI did warn Sneddon that he was infringing on Michael's civil rights. If you knew how gto RESEARCH using LEGIT SOURCES as well as you know how to Trash and rant, you'd already know these things.....
It's clear that you not only need to get HOOKED ON PHONICS, but you need a heavy dosage of READING COMPREHENSION as well.......Oye.
-the Truth, great post! However let me say this, I do NOT subscribe to the idea that Michael took or ever asked for Propofol. There is NO proof to corroborate this story except from the very person who is on Trial for KILLING Michael in the first place--MURRAY! He claimed he gave Michael Propofol for 6 wks yet there's NOTHING to support that. THe only PROOF that he took Propofol is the fact that the Coroner found it in his system with the Benzos--but those were the only Meds found in Michael's body....
Further, The Coroner stated Michael's body showed NO SIGNS OF DRUG ABUSE so unless we're talking about '93 when he admitted to an addiction to pain-killers, then went into rehab. After that, there's NO PROOF that he ever took anything beyond prescription meds, for his various ailments....
-AussieMJFan, this is not a question of whether or not Michael lied, the point is that AEG had a doctor give Michael a thorough Physical which he passed "with flying colors" according to the doctor. Not excusing Michael if he didn't advise about his precription meds, but as I stated before, I find it very hard to believe that Lloyd's wouldn't have checked into Michael's Medical History in lieu of the Media's allegations against him regarding drug usage. Not that there was any truth to it, but c'mon, this is LLOYD'S of LONDON we're talking about here, not some Po-dunk Insurance co., and this was for MILLIONS!!
They had threatened AEG about this in 2009, but later said they were going to wait until the outcome of the Trial, but now all of a sudden they're trying to get out of paying their bills??? Alrighty then.....
If they think the Estate is going to just roll over and play dead, they may want to talk to all those people who filed Claims, then got SHUT DOWN......
BTW: You may want to check your choice of words. "IMMORAL?" First of all, we don't KNOW that he lied, we don't even KNOW that MICHAEL was the one who filled out the forms at this point so how can you JUDGE him without knowing?
Guess you've NEVER lied in your whole entire life. Great to know that you're PERFECT....if not, you know what they say about people who live in GLASS HOUSES.....
-Susanne, your welcome! And although I'm not a fan of the "Michael" CD due to the cir****tances behind it and the poor quality, I do LOVE "Behind the Mask" because it's one of the only tracks on the CD that is FULLY Michael. That track is exactly what I was looking forward to when they said they were going to release CD's of UNRELEASED material......
-Hey Butterfly! Thanks for the articles. And I'm SO happy that Michael is no.1 in that "Greatest Singers of all time" contest! We all know that's EXACTLY how it should be. I like Freddie Mercury, but he was NO MICHAEL!!

wow. predictable yawner. idiotsonnycher. sarcasm is too much for you ...pitiful hypocrite. yes, mj never begged for propofol, but it's all over his closet, near his drug bed. he didn't want dr. death kevorkian's 'real killer drug injection'. he just needed a non-prescription sedative....lmao you are illogical and fanaticism didn't bring you honesty. you obviously can't hold your own in 1 language.

I can see the both side of points and we need more details involved. Insurance policy/law are very complex and also there can be special clause involved. For sure, if Lloyd knew of shape in MJ was in, they would turned down the policy. I am wondering if MJ actually signed and filled out the insurance policy himself and answered all those policy questions.

Also Insurance policy/law is very complicated and can have special clause involved so I can not tell from the article. For sure, if Lloyd knew shape MJ was in, the policy would been turned down I think. it's not an open and shut case.

Is also my say: Any other American would have needed a blood test before getting a policy like, they shouldn't have taken MJ's word for it. So..I say, they're in the right, screwed because they did not ask MJ to prove he was not on drugs.

Well, We know da man wasn't a child molestor. Everyone knew he had a prescription drug problem. Lloyds insured him through several concerts without paying a dime for rehab.

It stands to reason that LLoyds comitted the fraud. The only remedy is for Lloyds to return every dime of the premiums they got from Michael.
