Tina Fey

Tracy's Rant Was 'Violent,' 'Disturbing'

6/10/2011 5:15 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Tina Fey says she was disturbed by the "violent imagery" in Tracy Morgan's homophobic stand-up act in Nashville -- but insists her "30 Rock" co-star is not a "hateful man."

In a statement to TMZ, Tina said she's glad Tracy apologized -- but explained, "The violent imagery of Tracy's rant was disturbing to me at a time when homophobic hate crimes continue to be a life-threatening issue for the GLBT Community."

Fey continued, "It also doesn't line up with the Tracy Morgan I know, who is not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person.

"I hope for his sake that Tracy's apology will be accepted as sincere by his gay and lesbian co-workers at '30 Rock', without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket."

NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt claims the network has warned Morgan about the incident -- saying, "Tracy’s comments reflect negatively on both '30 Rock' and NBC – two very all-inclusive and diverse organizations – and we have made it clear to him that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

Why do different people who basically say the same damaging statements get treated differently. One will lose all respect and the other will be talked about in glowing terms by their boss. Again, life is not fair.

I hope he doesn't have a son that's gay or that poor child will live a life of h3ll. What a stupid thing for him to say.

No one deserves free speech if they can't control their inciting of hatred.

Whats funny to some isnt funny to all. people in the public eye need to be politically correct, there is so much that cant be said now, that could before....we have evolved...for better or for worse.

Oh, and Tina? You do a disservice to comedians everywhere by sucking the PC wang...

@Craig, Free Speech is one thing, but both the network and the show have the right to say that what he says/does reflects on them and they can fire he due to it. He still has the freedom to continue saying idiotic things like this all he wants afterwards.

Seems like you must condone him saying he would take out a knife and stab his son if he found out if he were gay....that's just downright disturbing on many levels.

What's the big ******* deal with gays? They want prime-time gay porn on all major networks or what. Seriously, the effeminate homos should grow the **** up. There's no death camps being built for them and they're not being ostracized so stop whining. Locally, everybody can be bullied or abused for any kind of reasons.

If sense were common everyone would have it.

There are certain things that can't be explained away under the guise of "humor". Think of all the inflammatory things that have been said not in the context of a stand-up routine, but still were the protected personal opinions of American citizens. Free speech, right? What makes it more protected just because it's done as part of an act? Anyone who was there said it did not sound like he was joking, that he sounded like he was serious as a heart attack.

Next time I spew something inflammatory I'm going to say it's part of my act & it's protected so nyah nyah nyah. I hope his kid turns out to be the gayest gay guy out there. Women's shoes, nail polish, the whole shot. Maybe he'll have a heart attack & there will be one less douche to deal with.

I love Tina Fey, and her statement is as it should be...absolutely perfect!

It doesn't matter if it's a comedy act or a personal opinion - free speech is free speech. And way to go hipocrite - your first paragraph leans towards the gehs and how his comments can't be justified by being comedy, yet in your second paragraph you wish a geh homo on him so he'll have a heart attack. Which side of the fence are you on?

Tina has said some pretty nasty things about individual persons. But, since it is popular to "hate" those people she jokes about, it is considered funny and acceptable. But, generalized "hate filled" jokes towards nobody in particular, is not OK. Strange how society works.

She shouldn't be casting stones.....
