Gay Rights Groups to Morgan

We DEMAND Apology

6/10/2011 7:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

The largest gay rights groups in the country are condemning Tracy Morgan's homophobic stand-up act in Nashville ... insisting, "anti-gay violence is not something to joke about."

TMZ spoke with Jarrett Barrios -- the President of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation -- who tells us the organization is investigating the situation, and if the reports are true, "We call on him to remove these violently anti-gay remarks from his show and send a strong message that anti-gay violence is not something to joke about."

The Human Rights Campaign is equally upset -- telling us, "Hateful remarks that mock youth suicides and the very real emotional and sometimes physical bullying LGBT kids face on a daily basis have no place in a comedy routine.”

The group adds, "If these allegations are true, Tracy Morgan must immediately accept responsibility and apologize.”

While they're at it...
GLADD should also demand an apology from Kathy Griffin for attacking and bullying traditional American values in front of a crowd of raucous gay heterophobes.

Even if Morgan were to remove these joke, "accept responsibility", and apologize, it won't be because he wants to. He will only do it because he was prompted, by various people, to do so.

If you have to be asked to say sorry, you're not actually sorry.

Do people really want to settle for a hollow apology?

It's called Freedom of Speech. If you don't like what's being said...leave.

Do not apologize. Free speech. Amazing so many are unable to handle being called a name.

@JJ...my thought exactly! "insisting" on an apologize is not the same thing as getting a sincere apology. His PR people will make him do if for his career but it will mean nothing, so why bother!

How the heck can someone "demand" an apology? It wouldn't be from his heart so how could it make one feel better? Tracy Morgan obviously has issues - scarey dude!!

What good is an "apology" if you have to demand it?
Get over it. I'm sick of "politically correct" ideals squashing free speech.
We've all been called something or other, we've all offended and been offended. It's called life.

Do not apologize. Gay's should have no place on this planet let alone any kind of rights.

i am so sick of GLAAD and every other agency out there trying to force people to apologize for their actions. These aren't kids and these groups aren't the parents of society. it's america. there is always going to be someone that says stupid stuff. make nasty, vile remarks. walk away. they have the right to make stupid remarks. we have the right to not listen and to walk away. instead of forcing an apology, just don't listen to him. don't pay to see his shows. that's how you take away his platform. it's non-confrontational and easy.

Agreed "demand and apology?"
Just who does GLAD think they are?
My brother is gay, i have friends that are gay,

Sounds like Tracy was pretty offensive, but thats his bad
Then don*****ch his show on TV, dont buy tickets to his concert,

but GLAD need to shut the f up,
they only serve to undermine, "some folks" acceptance of gay folks, as they thnk for some reason, that they are somehow "protected" against a comedian making a joke?
Its called free speech
What a bunch of Morons, and I hope Tracy takes a stand and tells them where they should go.
