Weiner's rep released a statement saying, "[Congressman Weiner] will request a short leave of absence from the House of Representatives so that he can get evaluated and map out a course of treatment to make himself well."

The statement went on to say, "Congressman Weiner takes the views of his colleagues very seriously and has determined that he needs this time to get healthy and make the best decision possible for himself, his family and his constituents."

He is hoping if he leaves for a while everything will go away or cool off.

What did he do that was illegal? Stupid? YES!

He cheated on his wife on a social media site! This is between them!

Republicans resign because of moral hypocrisy; they campaign and govern on a platform of moral supremacy!

If you looked into all of these - Politicians aka Professional liars - lives; there wouldn't be an Congress, because we're all guilty of sin.

Look at these republican sex scadals, they far outnumber democrats and the majority involve blatant illeagal acts.

This is ludicrous.
I understand he's a public servant and all, but these communications were PRIVATE and involved consenting adults. (Nothing obscene has been discovered in his texts to the 17 y.o.).

You'd think Cotton Mather was still running the show in the provinces...

This was not just a personal failing and embarrassment - as a member of Congress desperate to keep a dirty secret, he set himself up to be blackmailed by anyone who wanted to buy his vote. This was not just personal. He wasn't flipping burgers at Mickey D's - the man was entrusted with U.S. national security and he failed all of us. The blackmail factor, if nothing else, is why he needs to go. He has proven he is not mature enough, smart enough or respectful enough to understand the very serious side of his job.
