Gay Rights Org. Calls Malarkey on 'Anarchy' Claim

6/16/2011 8:00 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A powerful gay rights organization claims Super Bowl hero David Tyree is wrong -- legalizing gay marriage will NOT send our country into a state of "anarchy" ... and there's proof all over the world.

A rep for the Human Rights Campaign tells TMZ ... "Anarchy? Hardly. Committed gay and lesbian couples have been able to legally marry in five states and the District of Columbia — not to mention a number of foreign countries — for years now and cows are still giving milk, little boys are still pulling little girls’ pig tails, and we still drive on the right side of the street."

The rep adds, "New York’s passage of this law will result in nothing more than a more just and equitable society."

Jarret Barrios -- President of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation -- ain't holding back either, telling us, "Tyree’s statements are as misleading as they are ridiculous, and do not accurately reflect the growing acceptance that we're seeing from sports stars like Charles Barkley, Steve Nash, Sean Avery, Brendon Ayanbadejo, Scott Fujita and fellow former Giant Michael Strahan."

061611_david_tyree_videoAs TMZ previously reported ... the former NY Giants star took a very hard line against gay marriage during an interview yesterday with a faith-based organization called the National Organization for Marriage.

This idiot argues that same-sex parents are ill-equipped to raise a child of the opposite sex. "You can't teach something that you don't have," Tyree said in the video.
He was raised by a mother and two sisters. Guess they should have removed him from the home since they didn't have a penis.

Indeed, he has a right to talk, but are you kidding me? As an African American man, he is a minority, and there was a time where African Americans were prohibited from marriage in the US. How is it that we live in the 21st century, and still, all people are not allowed the basic right of marriage? It's sickening. Some of these comments are disgusting, uneducated, and just shows what religion can do to otherwise good people. If your god loves "everyone", then why he is not accepting these NORMAL PEOPLE. My goodness.

I completely understand you. You are saying you have a right to a monetary "benefit" which source is a government entitlement program financed by the American People (Most of which are opposed religiously/spiritually or by their values)because you, a man, were in a relationship with a man for an extended period of time.

This is pretty much what you're saying.

So this is where the root issue is that most people don't even address because they're to obusy being emotional about it...on BOTH SIDES of the argument.

Inequality is a matter of perspective TECHNICALLY. While you may feel the laws are unequal a lot of people do believe it is.

So a more technical dialogue on the issue is obviously in order with people having the capacity to ultimately concede if logic prevails.

Probaly is i don't see that happening when you have a situation like this because no matter what argument is brought to the table and no matter how logical it is....you as a gay person will never concede to it anymore than those who oppose homosexuality will never concede if the argument doesn't end up in their favor....especially when it's so spiritually based on their side.

That's the impasse.

@St James III: Nice try, but no. Your scholarly-sounding analysis is off base.

While having homosexual relations may be a "social practice," being gay or bi is not. Most everyone but religious zealots would agree that being gay IS a "state of being." not volitional. It's not simply semantics - hetero (state of being) men can have homosexual sex - guys in prisoon being a good example. Same as married gay men having relations with their wives; it doesn't make them straight.

Also, I'd suggest you actually study history before you cite it. Though the government may not have set up different drinking fountains, it has denied gay people (even celibate ones) the right to serve in the military; it has denied gays security clearances and government jobs (see: MyCarthy witchhunts); and in many states LGBT people can still be fired or denied housing without recourse. In Tennessee at this very moment , they're banning the mere mention of homosexuality in their schools.

And if "social practice" is not entitled to civil rights protections, how about relion? That's CLEARLY not an inborn trait. Bible-thumpers are made, not born. Why should my taxes underwrite the tax-free status of some jock's church preaching discrimination? Hey, why not just ban Reform Judaism, which not only endorse same-sex marriage but doesn't even believe that a ghost knocked up a virgin?

I am not for Gay Marriage. Never have been probably never been. I have learned to keep my comments to myself because eventhough you SHOULD BE ABLE TO VOICE YOUR OPINION.. people become offensive.

@His Prince Michael: "The "Human Rights Campaign" has already LOST, they just do not know it. YET."

Thanks for playing, but YOU lose. In an ever-expanding number of countries, same-sex marriage is legal. In the USA, polls over the last decade sow a remarkable increase in support of LGBT rights. And now, according to multiple polls, a majority of Americans support gay marriage. And the younger the group, the more supportive - the 'phobes are dying off.

So please take your head out of where it is, stop gloating, and face facts. You lose, buddy. YOU lose.

If I may lend some words from a founding father Thomas Jefferson:

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Danbury Baptist Association, CT., Jan. 1, 1802

Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
-Thomas Jefferson, letter to Dr. Thomas Cooper, February 10, 1814

What happened to seperation between church and state? Get your heads out of your butts and PUT IT ASIDE. This country was not founded on christianity beliefs, when did we begin to think it's right? Equal. Rights. For. All. Americans. Simple as that.

I've never experienced that people who are against gay marriage fear to let their opinion be known. So what's all the yelling about? No one is being hauled to jail for not liking gay marriage.

But not only do they want to get their voices heard, which is fine, they also demand other people to live by THEIR rules, and what's more shower them with all sorts of insulting and hateful talk. They want their opinion to be law for everyone else - so who is actually trying to oppress who here?

You have the right to say what you want, but so do I. And I'm a straight person who thinks gay couples must have the right to marry. Please, do not see the homophobics here as representative of all straight people!

What defines being Gay outside of the social aspect of Attraction and Relationships with those of the same sex as yourself?

Give me the physical biological aspects that shows the distinction of "homosexuality" human beings.

#2) As i stated before once you get into the Military aspects with respects to "rights" that citizens have you're in a whole new ball game because that doesn't compare to the run of the mill general rights that citizens have.

Again all the race and religion comparisons to justify things are to be expected but are not sound technical arguments for issues.

And i don't remember any legislation that states that gay people are not to be allowed security clearancees and government jobs. Now if people actually did that then of course that's a whole different story but that aint the point because there will always be people that will break the rules.

But was that THE RULE is the point. I don't think so.

In Tennessee depending on what type of school, i don't see what the problem is banning the subject of homosexuality because children go to school to learn, not have sex or have roundtable discussions on relationships. That's not a "right" being infringed upon.

Also i would like to hear more about laws on the books in certain states that state homosexuals are to be denied housing with impunity.

Your argument about taxes underwriting religious institutions is actually a good one. I'll give you that one but that has no bearings with the issue on the table. Sorry but i don't buy the argument of "I Should be eligible for these government entitlement programs because Churches DON"T pay taxes"

Funny how the "free speech" card is only played when one agrees with what was said, then invokes "hate speech" when they don't.

These days, "free speech" is a joke, thanks to political correctness and racial/sexual sensitivities.

Don't think for a moment that these same hypersensitive types don't through out some pretty hateful stuff, themselves.

You just aren't allowed to object to their "free speech". That would be hateful of you!

I always find it funny that people keep referring to biblical passages of man lying with man, yet they never state it is wrong for woman to lie with woman. Another reference is the suggestion that anal sex is the only reason for homosexuality to be wrong, yet it is hugely practiced among the heterosexual community...and again, where is this done in the lesbian community? So, I guess the statement should be that all who participate in anal sex should not have equal human rights, is that correct? That would leave the "vanilla" heteros, the gay men that don't do anal and the lesbians. Wow...that clears it all up for me.

Funny! Zealots never think things through properly, do they? ;)

He has the right to his own opinion. Doesn't everyone?

He has the right to say he is against gay marriage and everyone has the right to disagree with him. Nobody is mad at David Tyree. People are just arguing about what he said.

Thank you!!!! You took the words right out of my mouth! :)

I don't understand what these people are so afraid of? Every living person should be allowed the same rights as others and should be able to get married and be as miserable as the rest of us. ;) It's ridiculous that they hide behind their supposed Christian values.

In Orwell's novel "1984", Big Brother is portrayed as the stereotypical uber-conservative, corporate ruling class government which imposed "Thought Police" on the victimized public, punishing "illegal" thoughts and words.

Today's politics reveals just how far off Orwell was in that assertion. Clearly, the true "thought police" are the self-annointed progressives/liberals (both words being a sinister lie) who work tirelessly to make sure you don't offend someone with your thoughts or words.

You MUST show tolerence. Not doing so will not be tolerated!
You MUST accept deviate lifestyles. Not doing so is unacceptable!
You MUST give of your treasure to whomever THEY say is deserving. If you don't, they will take it from you!
You MUST believe everything they tell you, for they know what is best for you and the rest of the unwashed masses. You are too stupid to think for yourself.

Pretty Orwellian, eh?
