Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Someone just lost their son...it hasn't been said whether or not alcohol was a factor...too soon? yeah your kinda jumping the gun there...wouldn't you feel like a jacka** if he wasn't drunk? This is sad anyway you look at it...a little respect people.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Brad Brad

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

He DID NOT take out an innocent person. I am quite sure the jackass passanger was as drunk or even nore drunk and decided to get into the car and let Ryan do 130 plus mph. They were both drunk i.s photos. Fools and drunks die everyday. I the "innocent" passanger had his wits about him oe was the DD he'd be alive today as would Ryan.

While I don't condone the fact that he was smashed and drvining in the first place it doesn't make it any less sad. Sad for his family, for his friends, and for the other person in the vehicle....his parents maybe even grandparents will be burrying their baby, keep that in mind people. Its always too soon when that's the case, regardless of whether or not he was doing something that he clearly should not have been.

EBERT must have thought about the 23 prior driving convictions - something the judges did not do to stop the fat drunk looser from killing others..

The waitress was gettin a 20 spot every time she brought drinks. The club mgr. loved a celeberty in the house. You actually think for a second, someone had his "wellbeing " in mind. Ya, right. They had is wallet in mind. Thats it. Nobody cared about this drunk. Prove my point. See what people say a yer from now. They wont even remember who this fool was.

The fat drunk was glazed over- the bar prob gave him triple shots. At 34 years of age- heaps of driving convictions that exhibet lack of respect for the law and the well being of others- He was a lost cause anyways. He would have choked on his own barf sooner or later or killed a car full of innocent people - have he lived after number 24 .

It is not too soon. Poor guy my a__. A moron gets drunk, gets in a car drives over 100 MPH and kills himself and his friend. Thank goodness there were no people around for him to crash into and kill. And now we should have respect for the poor guy, again my a__.
It's just proof that people and alcohol do not mix.
Just look at how many people die of drunken driving each year and how many were not even the ones drunk. And now his friends and fans are giving him a tribute. For what, killing someone and himself. We need to make examples of these morons and stop excusing them for being stupid.

They should make a poster of the accident scene and the bodies and make a billboard out of it so everyone can see it for what it is.
Like Michael Jackson, another moron. They blame everyone else but him for killing himself.I don't care what they have done in their lives, I don't care how many hit records or movies they have had, they are bad examples of human life. Just everyone , please wake up, these people atre predators too.

to those who say it's too soon and those who say it's too late... you are "all" right. It's too soon because two mother's and father's lost their children, so no matter how the tweet is interpreted someone is going to be hurt by it. And it's too late because maybe had that tweet happened before that night, they would have had a 100% certain to be sober designated driver. Or hell maybe it would have jogged their common sense and made them call a taxi. because most places with a bar have a phone specifically for calling a taxi service. So as I said, no one here is wrong, but a little consideration for the families of those who lost their lives would be nice.

I'm really sorry, but million of peoples dies every day for car accidents, he was a persone just like us and he made a big big mistake. I'm sorry for him, really, but those guys (like many others in the world) often don't use their mind correctly. That's happens when people play with their lives...I'm sorry, but i'm not surprise at all.
Hoping other members will learn something from that.
Take care of your life! You know how fragile life is...you know.
