Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

It is too soon, even if he was drunk it is sad that he lost. And I am tired of people saying they feel sorry for the loss of he passenger more. it is just as much the passengers fault. You make he decisions in your own life, obviously they had a drink or two from the witter post, but he may not have been wasted. he could of been having fun driving. people like to drive cars, and that leads to accidents as well. Chill out people.

Ebert is right. Its bad enough to get behind the wheel when you've been drinking but he also killed his passenger because of his stupid choice. Not cool.

Regardless of how, it's still tragic to those who knew him and cared about him. Saying things to "teach a lesson" is just heartless, esp this soon after his death.

My god.. let people mourn for a day at least before you start slamming him.

Not even a jackass would be so insensitive so soon. He left behide loved ones and regardless if he was drinking and driving or not it's still tragic!!

The only thing that would have made eberts comment funny would be if ebert was struck and killed by a drunk driver moments after posting this..

LET THE MAN REST IN PEACE!! DON'T START ASSUMING SOMETHING BEFORE YOU KNOW ALL THE FACTS, HE MIGHT HAVE HAD PICTURES UP OF HIM WITH A DRINK HIS HAND BUT HOW DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY HE HAD OR IF HE WAS EVEN OVER THE LEGAL LIMIT..JUST SHUT UP AND LET THE MAN REST IN PEACE.

It seems like all you people being critical of Ebert have misread the tweet.

Read it again. Ryan's friends are at fault, according to Ebert.

If he killed a family of four, would you ask if it was too soon? F*** that guy and f*** you for mourning someone who died of Darwinism.

While Ebert is annoying as hell and nobody even gives a **** about his reviews anymore, he is right. If drinking was the cause, Ryan is at fault for killing not only himself but another passenger. Too soon isn't even a factor in that scenario.

Ebert may seem insensitive, but he is not wrong.

He did have alcohol in his system ... he did die .... he took his friend with him.

Additionally, his has an idiot for a friend...."3 beers and 3 shots but he was ok to drive"....WTF??

Legal limit is simply a legal opinion --- a benchmark.

He showed us he was drinking.

Would he be alive if he had not driven? Probably.

Ebert is correct. Someone was probably sober enough to stop him.

RIP --- Ryan and friend.

I don't think it's too soon.

What happened too soon is two families lost their children as the result of getting behind a wheel drunk and allowing a friend to.

Thank God he didn't kill an innocent family on the road.
