Roger Ebert BLASTS Ryan Dunn for Drunk Driving

6/20/2011 11:43 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Ryan Dunn hasn't even been dead for a day yet -- and film critic Roger Ebert is already ripping the late "Jackass" star for boozing before getting behind the wheel  ... tweeting, "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ryan Dunn Drunk
TMZ broke the story ... Dunn's drinking buddy claims Ryan had at least 3 beers and 3 shots before hitting the road in his Porsche.

Obviously, Ebert has a point -- but we gotta ask ...

If he had been alone in the car, then this would be too soon. Instead, he had a passenger and was out drinking with friends before the crash. You don't have to be legally drunk to have alcohol affect your ability to drive. Even a single drink has been shown to decrease your reaction time. It's sad that he took someone out with him when he made the very jackass-ish decision to drink and then drive.

Ebert's right. Enabler's let enabler's drink and drive. True friendship is a beautiful caring thing.Where people look out for what's best for one another.

Someone just lost their son...it hasn't been said whether or not alcohol was a factor...too soon? yeah your kinda jumping the gun there...wouldn't you feel like a jacka** if he wasn't drunk? This is sad anyway you look at it...a little respect people.

Too soon? Absolutely not!! Its too late! If in fact he was drunk at the time of the accident, he should burn in hell. He took an innocent life and destroyed a nice car and public property. Hope he had good insurance, because his family is gonna get sued big by the other persons family. We all know that drinking and driving is bad, yet people continue to do it. Maybe we need to bring back prohibition in the US to keep idiots from hurting themselves and others.

Wow..At least have some f***en respect. The man just passed for gods sake!

Curious Curious

Is Ebert ripping Ryan or is he ripping the folks that let Ryan drive after drinking? Seems to me he's ripping the friends of the Jackass star for letting him drive after drinking. Open to interpretation?

That may be the case, But come on the poor guy has not even been dead a day, and the fact that we don't even know his blood level yet, what a ass have a heart

He is right!! And it's not too soon....more people need to hear this before they end up dead or killing an innocent person!!!! There is no excuse, ever for this!!!!!

Ebert is being his usually witty self - his comment makes him sound like a jackass - that's the point - it's an homage to Ryan Dunn. Get it?

Two possible statements:

1) Jackasses shouldn't drink and drive

2) Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive

These two statements are not the same as each other. The first is critical of the jackass, the second is critical of the friends.

Ebert made the second statement.

You drink and drive, your an idiot. If he was drunk, I feel NO sympathy for you!! Famous or not, you drink and drive and die...too bad!

Hey Kim let me guess you have never been impaired while driving EVER.. not even that glass off wine or when you had a cold and took nyquil and drove. Hello you where impaired and when you drink your lack of judgment gos out the window all together because guess what you impaired. the situation is sad but berating the man will not do anything at this point. we need to get more serious about educating the young in regards to alcohol and impairment.

Lanie im sorry but your way off. What ever ebert has been through is fine but that has nothing to do with ryan dunn. He made a mistake but for people to have no compassion for a lost life is disgusting. Most of everyone has had alcoholic beverages and drove, its a part of growing up and making mistakes aka life. People make mistakes and sometimes life goes and obviously sometimes it doesnt. If any one of your lives were put under a microscope there would be thousands of other judgemental people talking about how horrible of a person you are.

Ryan Dunn is going to pay for what hes done, I hope all of you are ready to pay for what youve individually done.

Funny coming from a man with half a face.

Its way too soon for the Dunn jokes and all these people that claim to be perfect with their 'Nobody drinks and drives around me' talk....This aint the right time for that b.s.

This man died horrifically and you wan't to turn this into a lobbying act against drunk driving? Get a life. Let the man at least get a little appreciation for his life and his fans...He was living his life and like most of his life, probably didn't think it through all the way and unfortunately this cut his life short. No need to turn this into an "I told you so" event.

it is terrible that 2 people lost their lives. The passenger made a decision to get in the car and Ryan made the poor decision of driving.

Seriously though, show some f****** respect you waste of life!

i keeps it real

he's exactly right! people are too senstive! that man is dead because he did something foolish. whether or not he was driving, he still got into a car with someone who had been drinking. everybody mad that Ebert is blasting him, **** maybe had one of his friends talk some **** to him, he would still be alive.and besides he was just stated an obvious comment.everybody wanna get offended, but wont nobody offended when that man posted a picture of him drinking...and yall (his friends) knew he had a car, that chances are he was about to drive. i'm glad he didn't kill anyone else, cause normally it's always the innocent people who die..and the JACKASS who was drinking and driving lives.

Yes.. too soon. The guy made a mistake just like millions of others do. But Ryan Dunn does have a family.. lets give them time to mourn before the careless jokes start to fly out.
