Ryan Dunn's Passenger Indentified as Drinking Pal

6/21/2011 6:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Officials have identified the passenger who was killed in "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn's fatal crash as 30-year-old Zachary Hartwell ... a friend who had been hanging with Dunn at a Philly-area bar earlier in the night.

Zachary Hartwell

Cops say both Dunn and Hartwell (pictured above right) both died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash around 2:38 AM Monday morning.

Sources who were at the bar with the two men tell us Dunn had intended to drop Hartwell off at his home ... and then Dunn planned to hang out with another friend after that.

Hartwell is credited as a production assistant on the "Jackass 2" movie and recently had a small role in the Bam Margera-directed 2009 movie "Minghags."

It's sad to see such heartless comments, we don't know what happened before the crash, how do you people even know he was supposed to be taking this guy home? What if he asked Ryan to take him home last minute? Regardless, two men lost their lives, both making horrible decisions. Both of their families and close friends are grieving, if one of your close friends died in a drinking and driving accident you would not bash them, you would be grieving too. So stop with the heartless comments people, keep those thoughts to yourself.

To Soporifix and Dustin--- He was wrong for drinking and driving, but to say good riddance or rot in hell??? What kind of demented sickos are you?? And Dustin, his friend was drinking WITH him and decided to get in the car, this was a group effort! They were wrong for dui and probably speeding, but to say anyone deserves to pay for their mistakes with their lives? Besides, alcohol has not yet been determined as a definite factor, (not saying it didn't contribute) looking at the skid marks it looks like something jumped out or was stopped in front of them that made him it the brakes.

Reading all of this makes me so sad to think that people could be this way. Two people have passed away and regardless of the way they died, they are still gone and my prayers go out to the families of both of the lives that were taken. Ryan Dunn was doing exactly what we all love him for, no one judged him when he was being filmed doing it for Jackass. May he RIP! <3

Some of the comments here represent what TMZ is all about - worthless in our society.

None of you know about Ryan Dunn's life, or what it meant to the people closest to him. I do. He was a man who never let the success and fame change who he was. He does nothing but give back and treat everyone in this world with respect. This never changed over the 18 years that I knew him, through the notoriety that he gained.

The fact that he did a lot of crazy things as a form of entertainment molds many of these shallow offered opinions, as well as the shoddy spin put on this tragedy from the aforementioned negligent reporting medium.

Check yourselves people. Two friends died yesterday, and no matter what the cause, friends and family of these great people are hurting. Have some M-Fing respect.

SOPORFIX - You dumb****. ANYONE thats had a drink or maybe even just 1 sip too many could make a bad decision "showing off" or bragging about anything, car, truck, motorcycle etc... Good riddance tho? **** YOU. I hope Bam tracks your I.P. address and runs a back ho through your house. Ryan Dunn was a nice dude who made a bad decision. Your just a peice of ****.

Of course the bar manager said he looked ok to drive.....I got one word for ya...liability. The bar manager would never ever say he looked wasted as he pulled out of the parking lot. I feel bad for the families of both of these dudes. They both made a bad choice that night.....drunk or not he was going way to fast (as he a lot of times did) and there were sickening consequences.

wow

um two men are dead and yes no one should drink and drive but they are gone and their parents and families have to deal with the grief of losing ryan and zach....soporifix, you are an ass for saying what you said. two people are dead and that is a tragedy and when it comes down to it that is all that matters. zach knew ryan was drinking so he made a choice to get the car too...they made a mistake that unfortanatly took the lives of two young men. have respect for their families and friends.
