Ryan Dunn's Passenger Indentified as Drinking Pal

6/21/2011 6:15 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Officials have identified the passenger who was killed in "Jackass" star Ryan Dunn's fatal crash as 30-year-old Zachary Hartwell ... a friend who had been hanging with Dunn at a Philly-area bar earlier in the night.

Zachary Hartwell

Cops say both Dunn and Hartwell (pictured above right) both died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash around 2:38 AM Monday morning.

Sources who were at the bar with the two men tell us Dunn had intended to drop Hartwell off at his home ... and then Dunn planned to hang out with another friend after that.

Hartwell is credited as a production assistant on the "Jackass 2" movie and recently had a small role in the Bam Margera-directed 2009 movie "Minghags."

When your real life mimicks your movies. You end up dead. Alcoholism is ignored because it is such a social crutch for many. The positive in all this is that no inocent motorist was hurt.

Actually, no one has confirmed that he was drunk. He had three beers and three shots. No one knows how long he waited before driving, and the bar manager has said he did not appear too inebriated to drive.

He made a bad decision either way by driving so fast, yes. And if he was drunk, I agree, that's inexcusable.

However, that doesn't give the world the green light to piss all over his grave. He made a lot of people laugh, and the Margera's interview with TMZ portrays him as a genuinely kind and wonderful person.

What kind of sick losers get off on trolling people who just died? He made a mistake, and paid the ultimate price for it. That doesn't make it okay to be an insensitive, unfunny, inappropriate prick all over the internet at a time when people are hurting. Grow the **** up.

No doubt about it- the guy was a total retard. So are all his fans who are defending his drunk driving.

Let me begin by saying, the people judging, criticizing and wishing Ryan Dunn to hell are going to end up right there with them. I believe in the bible it says somewhere to forgive those for their mistakes.. NOT **** ON THEIR GRAVE.

Next; You people cannot honestly say that you or someone you know has NEVER gotten behind the wheel after even one drink. Not everyone makes a smart decision and im willing to bet out of you people judging his life and his decisions only about 10% of you actually stay out of the driver seat after drinking even a little bit.

Not only that but you all cannot honestly tell me that you have never sped. Not even 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit? Hard to believe. Yes, 120 is a bit excessive.. But what do we know Ryan Dunn for? His daring actions. Does that mean he deserves to die for speeding? No. That's like saying he deserves to die for shoving a hot wheel up his a** or any of the other stuff he did on Jackass. That would also mean all of you people have broken the lie by going over the speed limit deserve to die. And in that case.. Every single one of us should be in hell.

And Last, Although some of you see him as a "loser" and an "idiot", some of you also see him as a "d-list celebrity", he was still a celebrity non-the-less and he is in the spotlight for things he did. Which means he spent his life under scrutiny. Not that any of the Jackass members cared what any of you judging people think.. But my point being, he doesn't need to be under your scrutiny now. Let him rest in peace now. Hes done his time under your judging eye, shut your trap and let his life go with some dignity.

Oh and like previously stated; there has yet to be a definite ruling in cause of death, his B.A.L, and his speed. So again, I hope you all feel like giant ******** for judging someone before knowing the truth. Karma will bite you in the ass like you -believe- happened to him.

I don't condone or defend drunk driving as i had a family member very close to me killed by a drunk driver. But knowing who Ryan Dunn is, can you honestly be that angry NOW?? No one was this angry when he did stupid stuff for the movies or when he got pulled over. Everyone cares to say something now because he died.. well that to me is cowardly and sickening. People who cannot respect death of another human being or their families deserve the same punishment they believe the people who "offended" them deserve.

I think both Ryan and Harwell made a bad judgment getting in the car Ryan was wrong for thinking he was good to drive and Hartwell took the chance putting his life in Ryan's hands ...if anything one of them should had called a taxi! so i dont feel no sympathy for neither of them Drinking and driving is irresponsible.. But i will miss him as one of my favorite jackass stars.. R.I.P Ryan & Zachary. and would like to send my condolences out to both their family and friends. let this be another lesson to all please dont drink and drive.

"When your real life mimicks your movies. You end up dead. Alcoholism is ignored because it is such a social crutch for many. The positive in all this is that no inocent motorist was hurt. " <- John; You have no idea what you are talking about. First of all HIS LIFE DIDNT MIMIC THE MOVIES, HIS LIFE WAS VIDEOTAPED FOR ALL TO SEE. Nothing he did or any of the other stars did was "a show" for your entertainment. No, they all did what they did, because that is what they wanted to do. They were doing this long before "Jackass" was even a show. Second, Alcoholism isn't considered like it used to be. Alcoholism is considered when it is obsessive and you depend on it. Ryan Dunn was not someone who depended on it. I can honestly believe that. Steve-o came out and told people about his addiction to drugs and alcohol, so didnt Johnny Knoxville way back in the day, that to me is 2 people who will always be considered alcoholics. Ryan Dunn was nothing like them and you could clearly see that from any of the movies, episodes or youtube videos.

How can you all blame it on alcohol? Isn't it possible he WAS driving too fast and a deer or an animal was in the road and he tried to avoid it. I doubt than many of you have not gotten into a car after a couple of glasses of wine or beer. Not everbody dies that drives and drinks. Can't you wait until they investigate the accident before you pour hate all over these two poor men? RIP

It's a sad situation. My heart goes out to the friends and family of both of these guys. Maybe this can send a clear message to others that drinking and driving is DEADLY. I'm not being judgemental as so many others are, but it is what it is ...SAD in my family.
