Lindsay Shuts Down

Matt Lauer Interview

6/22/2011 12:30 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Lindsay Lohan pulled the plug on Matt Lauer last night, just before cameras were supposed to roll for her big sit-down interview.

NBC sources tell TMZ ... Lauer flew to L.A. yesterday, and showed up at Lindsay's Venice loft around 6 PM.

We're told Lindsay was actually in the makeup chair when things went south.  Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ ... Lauer's team blindsided them by saying the interview would be extremely lengthy because producers were planning to put it on "Dateline" as well as "Today."

Lindsay kicked up her heels, saying she was told it would only be a 15-minute interview, and refused to sit for anything longer.  The two sides began arguing -- to no avail -- and then Matt just packed up and left.

We're told before Lindsay made her decision, she consulted her publicist, Steve Honig, who agreed it was not the right time to do a televised and in depth interview. Once Lindsay decided to call it off,  Honig broke the news to Lauer.

Our NBC sources say producers made it clear to Lindsay and her people before Matt even got on the plane that the interview would be lengthy ... because it was servicing two shows.

Matt was not on "Today" today, and he's just about to land back in the Big Apple.

At least he got some AAdvantage miles out of it.

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm with Linds on this one.
Way to stand up for yourself and refuse to let this creep exploit you.

Marilyn, my my my, what excellent questions you ask: why two interviews with Lauer are deemed inappropriate while a shill for a scam site is okay in her book.

Two words: quick money. and two more: no work.

Hope they disinfected the makeup chair after she sat in it.

Better still, throw away the makeup and the makeup brushes.

I think she might have avoided some major grief by not doing the interview. Yesterday Harvey was ranting about her doing an Ad and saying she was not really being punished if she is allowed to spin house arrest into work.

The judge was specific about her not being allowed out to do community service while under house arrest so it seems to me that the idea of her not earning while under house arrest was at least implied.

Doing anything to provoke the judge is really stupid! If there is a lot of press about the Ad the judge could put her butt in jail for a couple of weeks to protect her image.

Who the f cares about Lindsay Lohan, can we just move on. No one wants to watch an interview with her.

Does this qualify as news - a news interview that didn't happen?

More fluff generated by the media...

that is going to cost her work. you don't agree to a two hour interview and then flake out.
lotsa luck, lindsay. why don't you stop grifting and grow some worth ethic? that goes for your parents, too.

i mean work ethic but worth works too.

Thats alittle weird NBC and Lohan had the time limit wrong. You think a Big network and a somewhat of a star people would have better communication skills haha. I do understand why Lohan didnt want to do the interview though because she needed to be prepared on what to say and have her publicist there plus she prob needed to be coached on what to say but it still was rude of her to do but I never really liked Matt Lauer or lohan for that matter but who really cares lame story I wish the story would of been Matt Lauer and Lindsay go on coke binge and have sex for 24 hours and Charlie sheen stoped by with a new goddesses.

Grandma Cracker

I think this interview would have been watched by lots of people. I had no interest in watching her buddy Leno stroke her, but I would love to see a savvy interviewer ask Lindsay some hard questions.

My personal opinion is she would have folded. What could she say to justify her behavior? She would have been utterly humiliated. Lauer would have eaten her alive.......

No way is she prepared for a lengthy interview. She cant even handle a 20 second commercial.

Serious question. Is she eligible for unemployment benefits in California?

The time for her to have stood up and not allowed Matt to "exploit" her was before she took on the commitment to do the interview. Think of it from a professional point of view: he was supposed to do a lengthy interview with her for two shows. So how does he find an instant replacement? And get to the person? Prepare the interview questions? Agree on terms and payment?

You guessed it, these things take time, especially when it's with a celeb.

She dissed a professional gig. What she did was wrong and unprofessional. A great big no-no.

You guys are idiots, it's very understandable that Lindsay isn't comfortable with doing a very long personal and in-depth interview.

Yeah- too hard for that twit to keep all the lies straight.

Nice to see all the new names on here! Boy, Lindsay is going backwards instead of forwards.

Ok, so she and her publicist decided that it was better to do a shoddy production internet "commercial" for a site that is a scam... than to do an interview for a primetime show on one of the largest networks.

Yep, great decision there. I hope you're paying your publicist a huge sum. He deserves it. Sheesh...
