Celebrity Poker Circle -- Pay Up or GET OUT!

6/26/2011 1:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Tobey Maguire's super-exclusive high-stakes celebrity poker circle was SERIOUS when it came to cash -- in fact, TMZ has learned, if you didn't pay up ... you were blackballed for life.

A regular player in the exclusive poker circle -- which included Leo DiCaprio, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Nick Cassavetes and Todd Phillips -- tells TMZ, the poker games took place every Tuesday night for nearly 2 years ... from 2005-2007.

The circle was small -- only 8 or 9 players at a time -- and we're told, the mood was always "super serious" ... no joking, no drinking. The games would start around 10PM and go all night.

It wasn't uncommon for tempers to flare either -- we're told screaming matches happened on the regular ... and on the rare occasion, the table even got tossed over.

There was no official buy-in -- but we're told, hands often got as big as $150,000 a pot. We're told players would regularly lose $500,000 in one sitting ... no big deal.

But these guys weren't carrying briefcases of cash with them -- we're told most of the time, they played on credit ... and if someone didn't pay, that was it ... they were out of the circle forever.

Inside the room, there were dealers, massage girls, lots of security, food, and a full bar ... presumably for the spectators -- which included a list of billionaires ... and one time, the Olsen Twins.

As for who was the ultimate card shark -- we're told that was Tobey, no question.

Half of this is BS to sound like they didn't pay to play these poker games. You think they would have a full bar and a guest list of millionaires and billionaires, but the players didn't joke around a bit? I can understand not drinking alcohol by players when all that money is exchanging hands. But, all that organizing, professional dealers, security, food, drinks, massage women, and guests doesn't come free and likely doesn't come cheap! All you've done is allude to the fact that the unlicensed person or persons organizing these poker games was getting paid and thus was the "house" to these illegal games.

Exactly!

I can't help but notice the one common denominator amongst this All-In Cats - They're all girlymen trying to act tough, dark, and edgy - even when the camera is not running! Seriously, this poker game was more about these weenies trying to feed their own egos and insecurities...The bigger the pot = I get my balls back kinda thing. Aflak, Dicaprio, Casavetes and Damon...all had their lunch money taken more than once and they will forever try to recover their ba11s by this kind of activity. This was not so much about gambling as it was a vicarious thrill - pretending to be some baddazzes like a Soprano scene.

TMZ, where's the info on who got booted from the games forever for being a cheapskate and not paying up? Or, is that just a pre-determined rule that nobody's broken, yet?

Get a couple of those billionaire spectators into a game, and watch the stress level of everybody else in the game go way up.

I call BS on the no drinking & no joking. I'm sure they all had a drink in front of them the whole time but the point is its not like a poker game you & i might have with buddies where we plow through a case of beers over time and get drunk. They weren't drinking and getting drunk because this was serious money.

And as for the no joking. Even the guys at the World Series of Poker make jokes with one another. These guys were serious about winning but TMZ is trying too hard to make it seem like you could cut the tension with a knife in there because it was all serious no jokes.

I have no problem with people playing poker with friends in their own house. Just because these guys make more money than the rest of us doesn't make it any worse. They are free to do what they want with their money. And don't give me the cliche "there are kids starving in so & so that could use that money." These guys all donate more money and do more for other people than you & i will do in our lifetime so get over it, its not their job to solve all of the poverty problems in the world.

I'm a little surprised to not see Brad Pitt or George Clooney's names on there.

It wasn't in their house, it was at various hotels and other venues, arranged by an outside party, and with reports of how lavish the setting was, and with spectators, there was most definitely an unlicensed "house" involved in setting up the games and making a profit, which makes it organized illegal gambling.

I wonder if games ever went like this:

George: "Allright, I'll see your bet and raise you one night with Elisabetta."

Brad: "Oh yeah? I'll see your Elisabetta and raise you two nights with Angelina!"

Tobey: "I'm only in if you throw in the kids."
