'Avengers' Stuntman -- SCALPED During 30-Foot Fall

6/27/2011 11:02 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

A stuntman for the new "Avengers" movie nearly lost his entire head last Friday during a 30-foot fall gone horribly wrong -- but thankfully, the guy just lost a bloody chunk of hair instead.

Stuntman Jeremy Fitzgerald tells TMZ, his job was simple -- get hit with an arrow and fall 30 feet off a building ... but he caught his foot on the way down, and slammed his head into the brick ... leaving behind a freshly peeled slab of scalp.

But it could have been a LOT worse -- according to Jeremy, he narrowly missed a razor sharp rain gutter during the accident.

And if all that wasn't badass enough -- Jeremy tells us, he went right back to work after the fall ... no hospital, no stitches ... just a bandage.

UPDATE: A Marvel spokesperson tells TMZ, "[Jeremy] was fine. He slid briefly along the side of the building.  He got right back up and did several more takes."

Poor guy i hope he's doing fine.He will need some hair restoration in the area eventually... but he's alive and that's the important thing though, god bless him

Stunt people take alot of risks and get very little credit, many loose their lives. I met Janet Orcutt after her mishap in Ireland during a stunt show, she missed the airbag and ended up a quadraplegic. She was sent back to L.A., a friend of mine and I went to see her with another friend Spice Williams, also a stunt woman. My heart went out to Janet, I don't know what happened to her since she shut out her friends. She did stunt scenes in the Rocketeer and other movies, stunt people deserve way more credit. They make action movies what it is, they put their lives at risk.

I'd like to imagine that a contracted stuntman on "The Avengers" doesn't have to leak info like this to make extra money. Just so Marvel knows, there are stunt guys out there who will actually obey the non-disclosure agreement. Hope he's getting fired today.
